Mr Cameron is just posturing. The EU is undertaking. pan European look at copyright in every country with a view to harmonise it to further a common market.
So UK has to get its stall out and loaded to have its say in the negotiations.
What is good is that the EU view on copyright, ACTA not withstanding, is more open than most current country laws.
But now is the time to start to have our say in what we would like to see in the common market./div>
Access to an uncensored internet is a right that we have to sustain in todays world. There are many who regard this as a threat to their way of doing business, but merely doing business is not an excuse for removing a human right.
I hope that governments will recognise this, and not bow down to the sleazy claims of the music industry that it threatens their business model - well change it then.../div>
I would like to say that I have taken some action about ACTA. I have blogged about it a number of times, I have written to my Member of the UK Parliament, with no reply! I have read a few of the leaked documents and tr=ied to gain sime understanding of what it has in mind.
Don't forget that this is not a new issue, the World Trade Organisation has already some agreements about IP/rights protection and ACTA is an extension of this.
Seems to me that copyright arguments are barking up the wrong tree. Copyright to day is micro-managed (...you can only release this for internet streaming on the 21st of March at 12.30am, in 640x480 resolution...etc). And that geo-location which blocks video and TV on national boarders should be the target of our discussions.
The problem you see is simple. The internet is global and copyrights have to be too./div>
I have another opinion to add in support of Warner. The audio quality of all the streaming services is very poor and by supporting them the labels are downgrading their product. What they need is CD quality downloads, and a new HD quality service at premium cost.
They should go talk again to Apple to see if they will put Apple Lossless files at 16bit/44.1kHz and 24bit/96kHz on iTunes. That would be a premium service worth paying for./div>
Is there anyway to combine all this creativity - Connect & Buy - into a one stop shop. A la iTunes?
I for one do not like chasing around tons of web sites, twitter pages, pirate sites, "facebooks" to follow a band. I want them in one place where I can browse and chose./div>
If it is of any comfort my politician assured me that due to the impending election in UK, non of the current bills going through are likely to become law in this parliament. And the Digital Bill will have to be reconsidered by the next elected government... let's see of they behave any differently. Hope so./div>
Well if China, UK, Italy, France, India have some ideas to prevent the free flow of information, let them block Google (USA) and start their own - no one will use them./div>

It's an EU thing (as Antony Watts)

ACTA and my protest

We have to kick this out into the open./div>
