I Am The Broadband Bermuda Triangle

from the it's-official dept

Okay, if you're a regular reader of Techdirt, you've seen me whine and complain about my broadbandless saga. Apparently, it was a good enough story for Salon, as they've now published my article on why I am the broadband Bermuda Triangle. I guess I can't criticize the writer in this case.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    DSL destructive capability

I have read Mike's article, and would like to know if he will be starting a service to warn any other users as to his plan for his next ISP.
I have put down a few DSL providers in my time but Mike seems to have a natural talent for it. I wondered if he would consider conducting classes for those of us who wish to be hAcKeRz but have no technical talent.

      Re: DSL destructive capability

Well Mike probably has service from AT&T Broadband now, like the rest of the cable modem subscribers in the SF Bay area. If his curse can take down AT&T, then that will be very impressive. More likely, maybe they'll spin off the broadband unit into its own company (if this were 1998 that would sound reasonable) and it will go belly up.

    Great Article

Well written and hilarious... I spent many many years waiting for broadband and have finally gotten the opportunity to get Bellsouth's Fastaccess DSL service... for my sake, *please* stay away from this service! :) No offense of course, and keep up the great work here... heh

      Re: Great Article

Mike, please stay out of Canada. The cold winter is almost upon us, and I, on behalf of all of us Canucks, beg you not to take our Internet away from us. Otherwise we may be sitting and staring at the wall for the next six months. Fantastic article.

    Great article!

Very well-written and funny! Great job, Mike.

I'm a RoadRunner customer myself, and while I love my super-fast cable modem, I would be very interested to see if Mike can single-handedly take down the world's largest media conglomerate. Let the death watch begin!

I Am The Broadband Bermuda Triangle

You may be the Wrathful god of Broadband...But I am the "Lord of the Undead Zombies", when it comes to customer service.

Anytime I have dealings with a corporation though thier customer service department I feel like one of those people hiding in an attic in, "Night of the Living Dead"

Monotone voices - Glazed Eyes - Slackjaw attentiveness - shuffling movement. I keep expecting one to yell out, "BRAINS we want BRAINS".

anyhow...great article...I too feel your pain. (hehe)
