More Dangers Of Internet Dating
from the you-could-get-mugged dept
It seems a gang in Japan used an internet dating site, and promises of sex with teenaged girls, to lure a guy who they then beat and robbed instead. I really don't quite understand the point of using an internet dating service to find the victim in this case. If they're going to beat and rob someone, why do it in a way that is traceable, and why bother setting up the whole dating facade in the first place anyway? However, the quote from the guy at the end of the article is priceless: "I'm never going to use a dating site again."Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

This smacks of the 'car jackings' of years past. You have a crime committed to you while you were in a place where, if questions were to be asked, it might be very embarssing.
The gang was hoping no one would ask what you were doing looking for sex with a 16 year old.
