New York Tells Microsoft to Get Its Butterflies Out of Town

from the graffiti-as-advertising dept

Remember the good old days when "guerilla" advertising techniques from large tech companies meant spray painting sidewalks? Apparently, Microsoft took a page from IBM's advertising playbook and have plastered NYC with butterfly decals to go along with their latest MSN launch. At least the decals are easily removable - unlike the IBM paintings. Either way, though, the New York Times says that New York City is not amused and could start legal proceedings. Of course, Microsoft has shown in the past that they really don't care when governments start legal proceedings against them. When you write the operating systems that rule the world, I guess you get to make your own rules.

    Lawyers to the rescue!

no problem, microsoft will bury the city in lawyers saying
    - they didn't do it
    - it isn't illegal
    - pursuing microsoft is anti-capitalist
...and three years from now sign a consent decree agreeing that even though they never did it, they will never do it again (promise).
