Usability HipHop And The East Coast/West Coast Usability Wars

from the you-have-got-to-be-kidding dept

I really have no idea what to make of this, and it actually scares me a bit, but it's a Friday afternoon, and a friend of mine who follows the whole usability/human-computer interaction space is begging me to post this, so here we go. I've joked in the past that no story about web usability is complete without a quote from Jakob Nielsen, even though many people don't agree with his ideas. Apparently (I had no idea, really) there is some anger between "west coast" and "east coast" usability folks, to the point that someone has created a comic-strip putting the argument into a hiphop battle storyline. They've also (no, I can't believe it either) recorded a hiphop song about computer usability. This reminds me of the hiphop song about 419 Nigerian scam emails. Who knew hiphop cultures and technology had so many similarities? No, they don't, actually. Anyway, this one definitely falls into the "too much free time" category...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Buy the album...

Probably best to also point folks to http://www.bradsucks.net/?nav=oti since Brad actually would like people to buy the CD from him for $5, which includes shipping. And the CD is really worth it...

Plus, you aren't supporting the RIAA with the purchase, so those boycotters out there should be happy about that (myself included.)

    Hiphop/computer cross-overs

A rap song with the lyrics, "...twice as many clock cycles as a four eighty six."
Another that mentioned "Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory".
And a rapper on a late night Radio 1 show that described how to check whether your Windows computer was Y2K safe or not.
