What To Do When Google Goes Down?
from the such-a-terrible-life dept
There are an awful lot of Google stories today. Maybe it's just because with the troubles the site is having no one can find any other news items to write about... However, the folks over at News.com are noting that one of the interesting side effects of Google's technical troubles today is that some are being forced, for the first time in a while, to contemplate life without Google. When you come to rely on a service so thoroughly, having it not working for much of the day seems a bit stressful at first for some. While it appears that, without too much difficulty, people figured out that there are (no, really, there are) other search engines out there, it does reinforce the question about having so many people relying on a single system. Maybe Google needs to put a backup plan in place.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
