Blackberries Banned In Parliament
from the wrong-solution... dept
In something of a followup to our post about tech-clueless British politicians, it appears that they're now responding in exactly the wrong way to one of the blunders described in that story. Apparently, a political spin-meister was caught earlier this week accidentally sending the wrong email to the wrong person -- a somewhat common mistake, actually. In this case, it was an expletive filled email about the BBC... that got sent to the BBC. Of course, instead of recognizing that perhaps these politicians need to learn a bit more about how to email -- and especially how to email from Blackberry devices, British MPs are being told they can no longer use Blackberries in the Commons. You have to wonder how banning the use of a particular technology is going to make politicians any more proficient at using it.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

It's a good idea to expect elected leaders to actually pay attention on the job. After all, the tax payers are paying their salaries and have to put up with whatever laws they pass.

Everysome is so scared of offending anyone these days that instead of confronting the offenders, we just blindly take away more & more rights across the board, therby allowing no one to learn ettiqutte or how to think for theselves
