Is The Internet Making Porn Less Of An Issue For Kids?
from the unintended-consequences... dept
This obviously needs a lot more research, but it appears that some are wondering if the pervasive nature of porn in society may have had the
opposite effect that many anti-porn campaigners predicted. That is, the easy access to pornographic material hasn't necessarily harmed the development of children -- but has actually de-sensitized them so much that they don't care about it. There's still plenty of research going on in this area, and some of the points made in the article about kids just not caring about porn are anecdotal. However, there
are some related stats that are interesting. Fewer kids are having sex than a decade ago and "teenagers now have the lowest pregnancy, birth and abortion rates in decades." Obviously, there are plenty of other variables that could have impacted those results, but it certainly raises the question as to whether or not the pervasiveness of porn has actually desensitized children to the point that it's lost some of its "mysterious" allure.
