If Only My Mobile Phone Looked Like A Lump Of Cheese!
from the that'll-sell-right-out... dept
This is just odd. Vodafone in Japan has been in serious trouble for quite some time, and every time we hear something new the story seems even worse than before. Beyond the revolving door with the leadership, it seems that customers just don't care about the ton of new handsets Vodafone released last year. While, elsewhere, Vodafone is pulling a back to basics plan with simple, straight-forward phones, Vodafone's latest strategy in Japan is to add weird textured faceplates to phones. The so-called "costume covers" go beyond your typical replacement faceplate. The only way to describe it is just to quote from the article: "Covers include 'gummi,' which simulates semitransparent, semisweet chewable confectionary, 'dinosaur egg,' a cover that looks lumpy, and cheese, a cover that looks cheesy." Ah, right, because the reason Japanese mobile subscribers have been flocking to DoCoMo and KDDI and away from Vodafone KK is the lack of cheese-coated mobile phones.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
