DailyDirt: People Are Stupid, So They Don't Question Sky Law...

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

If you're traveling for the upcoming holidays, you might think that a "passenger bill of rights" is supposed to have kicked in already, so you don't have to worry about being stuck on a plane sitting on the runway for more than 4 hours. That probably won't happen, but if the weather is bad, be prepared to have your flight canceled instead. Here are just a few interesting links on airline operations. By the way, StumbleUpon can recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Gotta love the unintended consequences

Canceling flights doesn't sound like a bad call to make. if there's a chance that my flight is going to be delayed for 4hrs, I wanna know and airlines are usually pretty bad about giving passengers definite answers. This way, at least fliers will get a definite answer and be able to arrange for other means of transportation, if possible.

regarding in flight porn. I once took a flight from Barcelona to Rome and the in flight magazine had adverts for phone sex. That struck me as amazingly bad placement as they are reaching some of the only target market that was completely physically unable to make use of their service. Kudos to the magazine sales person though.

      Re:

Any memorable ad is likely a good one..? (unless it's easily mis-remembered to promote competitors instead -- like the battery bunny that people seem to think is an ad for Duracell instead of Energizer.)
