DailyDirt: Computers Are Getting To Know You, Getting To Know All About You...

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

One of the complaints for artificial intelligence advocates is that the goal posts for strong AI seem to be constantly pushed forward -- so that chess-playing programs are no longer considered a valid demonstration of intelligence and none of the achievements of AI so far are regarded as progress towards a silicon-based analog of human intelligence. But the field of artificial intelligence has made significant progress, and here are just a few examples of some interesting AI projects. By the way, StumbleUpon can recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

So basically, it'll spit out advice like: "the only way to win is not to play" and "liquor before beer."

"A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?"

Thanks for the exact quote, Rekrul!

Now who originally said, "liquor before beer, you're in the clear. Beer before liquor, never sicker"...?

Will the algorithm warn you that once you shoot your wad you are going to wish you were somewhere else with someone else?

        I went to bed at 2 with a 10 and woke up at 10 with a 2.

As for the other algorithm, don't they mean; male/female/gay?

I'm curious to know if I will be something like male with a 53.62% probability.

In any case, such a program can be used to help train yourself to sound like someone else.

I always thought it was "liquor before beer, never fear. Beer before liquor, never sicker"

That seems to have more symmetry too.

“Thinking Is Whatever Computers Cannot Do”

I remember a definition like that from an AI class once. Of course, it just flipped the question from “can computers think?” to “can humans think?” ...
