Techdirt Gear on Teespring

Takedown and Math Is Not A Crime are back in the Techdirt Gear store »

As promised, over the next few weeks we're going to be bringing back most of last year's designs in the Techdirt Gear store on Teespring, and today we've got our first returning champions: the long-time favorite Takedown tee and the surprisingly controversial Math Is Not A Crime gear.

We've also got some brand new designs coming soon, but for now this is your chance to get one of these designs if you missed them last year! You can also help us out by sharing the store with friends — and we love seeing photos of Techdirt gear in the wild when you tag us in them on Twitter.

Check out the Techdirt Gear store for these returning designs, and more »

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

No recognition that any copyright claim could be valid, eh?

    Typical Techdirt.

Satire tends to be less effective when you include a paragraph of small-print explaining the precise contours and limitations of the commentary. I'm sorry if this particular joke went over your head but we are confident most of our audience is smart enough to understand it.

Other facts which are omitted from the T-shirts:

      Murder is illegal.
      Puppies are adorable.
Water is composed of two parts hydrogen to one part oxygen.
Neo Nadi won five gold medals for fencing in the 1920 Olympics.
Batman was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger.
Val Kilmer's first film credit is the 1984 film Top Secret!
      You're an idiot.

This is an exhaustive list. There are no other facts besides the ones I have just listed.

You should see the SINCERE objections we got the first time around that were identical to that joke, and then you'd understand :)

      Re:

Moving numbers from one person's bank account into another person's bank account is also not a crime.

Just today I have moved numbers from my bank account into a credit card company's account and into my public utility's account.

I have one of the "Math is not a crime" hoodies and I love it. I do get some quizzical looks, but people seem to understand when I tell them briefly that the idiots in government are trying to undermine their privacy by legislating math.
