More Bogus Internet Companies

from the guess-it-wasn't-so-original-after-all dept

Earlier this week I posted an article about HeyIdiot.com and complained they were simply stealing my idea for mikesretirment.com. Apparently neither of us was being that original, as the San Jose Mercury news already has been working on ETattler.com. So, when Dan Gillmor of the Merc found out about HeyIdiot.com, he was noticeably pissed. I wish him luck in his endeavors against HeyIdiot.com, but let's face it, if you've got a hot idea in the internet space, it's only a matter of time before someone else has the same great idea...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    bogus ?

with all the press, pretty soon, these sites will garner enough traffic that somebody might want to advertise on them... and with advertising revenue, more bogus sites can be created, which will generate more traffic and more advertising revenue... and someday, a giant portal will realize that people really dig bogus sites and you can imagine the rest.
