DailyDirt: Uncanny Artificial Intelligence
from the urls-we-dig-up dept
Human intelligence is about to be bested by computers playing the game of Go, and software already soundly defeats people at games like chess and specific variations of poker. If we're trying to keep our smug superiority, people are still better than AI at MMORPGs and a few other skills... but it might not be too long before we hand over the controls of monetary policy to algorithms.- In the 6th annual AIIDE StarCraft AI competition, expert human gamers still beat the artificial intelligence bots. It probably won't be too long before Starcraft bots can beat people, but will that many people still be playing Starcraft when the bots get really good? [url]
- Many robots seem clumsy and prone to falling, so what if we taught them some Judo moves to fall more gracefully without hurting themselves? Robots that know how to fall can reduce the impact energy to their components by up to 90% -- and hopefully, they'll understand what we mean when we're trying to tap out. [url]
- Artificial intelligence is becoming more human-like and able to adapt to situations that they haven't been explicitly programmed for. This also means that when robots make a "mistake" -- we might not know why or how to fix the error because the machine learning process is becoming too complex to really de-bug by humans. [url]
