re·lease (r-ls)
tr.v. re·leased, re·leas·ing, re·leas·es
1. To set free from confinement, restraint, or bondage: released the prisoners.
2. To free from something that binds, fastens, or holds back; let go: released the balloons; released a flood of questions.
You have opened the file and know whats inside? You're sure its all of the cables? And if they haven't given out the key yet, just what good is it then?
The truth is pesky, it also depends on how its being told.
So they have put out the file. That in my eyes does not fall under them being released to the public, even if they are in that file. See, the thing about them being "released" is that they need to be able to be read. Since they are still bound by encryption, that doesn't fit very neatly into your supposition that they "released all 250,000" cables.
The day the password gets out then they all will be "released."
Until the file is opened, I'm fairly certain its all speculation as to whats inside.
I can see it now, when all of france is off the net, they can say, "See, wasn't that easy? Now they HAVE to start buying our CD's and DVD's!" Nevermind that its after the point that all of france is "off the net" and the people in france still aren't buying their CD's and DVD's.
I'm pretty sure its not a requirement to defend trademarks, I think that has been pointed out on this site before. Its not part of the law. They are simply advised to do so as it is their best chance to protect them. (Paraphrased from another site during a google search)
Ask the Yes Men or Nina Paley if they don't find The Pirate Bay "useful" to them.
In fact, The Yes Men Save the World was distributed to me, with clear approval from the people who created the content, via TPB.
Also, Sita Sings the Blues was also distributed to me via TPB. Nina Paley comments on this site, and has a facebook page, you can even ask her yourself if she approves of this method.
How can 2 works be distributed legitimately on a site that is only dedicated to infringing?
Oh, and TPB could be replaced with any tracker that serves these two movies, not just TPB itself.
Not to mention myriad flavors of Linux being distributed this way.
Guess I just made they case that they are not. Do I get a cookie?
This. What the hell good is it to report 130+ items found when none of them pose serious harm to an entire flight?
Drugs? I could care fucking less if they found drugs. The War on Terror is just as much grandstanding as the War on Drugs. I could also care less if they found toiletries or water or whatever the fuck it was they found. If it wasn't an actual incendiary device, I DO NOT FUCKING CARE.
Since they didn't find any, in essence they are just bilking more taxpayer money for Security Theater, to show us who's in charge and to intimidate us. Well, they aren't scaring me.
I wish I was flying this week so I could test the waters of the potential for a civil suit and a fine.
As you suggest, the "Twinkle Twinkle" was an aid, not the very thing that allowed me to learn it. So are you saying no one can learn the alphabet without it? That I doubt very much.
So the horns "helped organize the hunts?" Were they not able to hunt before this?
I said I could do without, as in, its not life threatening to go without.
I also said the quality of life would be less. I never said useless. That word came from you.
Leaks have a way of INCREASING demand, not reducing it.
They create more interest, not less.
I'm with Mike, I don't see what the issue is. So 500 or 500000 people found out early. There are still plenty of other people who won't see the leaked material and will see it when it is properly announced.
All the leak does is generate MORE buzz.
I read all the Cataclysm leaks last year before Blizzcon 2009. I didn't go to Blizzcon or watch any of it or pay attention live. If I had I wouldn't have paid attention to the leaks, because there wouldn't have been any surprise. Yet my interest was piqued because I wanted to know if the LEAKS WERE TRUE.
The leaks didn't make me less interested, they made me more interested.
Sorry but the fact that you take objection is your own personal problem.
Look, we would have material goods without music. We would still have cars, buildings, computers, sports drinks, cell phones, etc.
There is a societal/cultural contribution from music and art, but don't be confused about everything else in the world.
Art IS frivolous. I happily go days without listening to music. I can live without it. Other things in my life? Not so much. Without art and music, it is not as fulfilling or enjoyable, but it is not a threat to my wellbeing. Quality of life is improved by art, it is not non-existent without art.
And we probably wouldn't have music in the first place if weren't for the love of it. (First by the people that make it, or we wouldn't be able to appreciate it and second by the people that appreciate it or the artist wouldn't continue to share)
