We should be electing engineers. Seriously.
If not engineers then programmers or scientists or somebody who understands little things like LOGIC, physics, math perhaps...
Yeah, is we need any new law, it should be one that states not all politicians can be former lawyers.. Conflict of interest there, really.
"There really was not a dime’s worth of difference [between presidential candidates]. Voters were given the choice between CFR world government advocate Nixon and CFR world government advocate Humphrey. Only the rhetoric was changed to fool the public." - Author Gary Allen
Oh and.. "A good business model is one where everyone is happy with the transaction, not one where one party feels forced or coerced into accepting something they don't want."
Is one of the very best summaries of this whole problem now.
What's up with this corporate entitlement mentality? Ad blockers are nothing more than pressing the mute button while commercials are on TV or getting up to do something else while the commercials are going - guess that's stealing too?
Got news for them and others - I didn't sign anything stating I would submit to viewing ads in 'payment' for going to a site.
But I have a Linux proxy between the web and myself. I use it to block objectionable sites along with any other domain I choose. I pay for the internet service; so what I choose to allow in and not allow are my business.
Many 'ad' domains and many 'analytics' domains are blocked 100% at my end. I'm not getting paid to allow the ads bandwidth on my connection nor am I getting paid for any 'analysis' work - until I am, they stay blocked.
Actually - now that I think of it. If I did download more music from torrent, I would likely buy more.
See - I don't buy music I've never heard. How many liars are going to claim they have? Maybe.. on rare occasion or maybe if you are just a serious CD collector - unless it's a group you like of course; now I've done that on occasion.
But the *vast* majority of music CD's that I own, I heard the music somewhere for 'free' first. Be it in a club, on the radio, in a movie I watched, at a friend's place, etc, etc.
Out of all the CD's and DVD's I own - less than 2% I bought without seeing first.
So.. by keeping free music down - in fact the RIAA is hampering these same efforts.
I'd be willing to bet anyone $1000.00 that if I had the time and ability to listen to a plethora of free music, I would walk away with a number of bands I had never heard of that I would like and buy their music.
"E Nomine" is a *perfect* example.
I bet maybe 20% outside of Germany have heard of them, I never had until I had heard it on the web - for free - and after that, I went and bought a couple of their CD's - which are in pristine shape at home, as I instantly ripped them to MP3.
Guy at work mentioned a couple of cool bands to me the other day - I'm sure they are, I forgot the names already - but if I had actually heard it - it might have peaked my interest a lot more. But just mentioning the name - well, *yawn*
Do you believe artists should be compensated for having their music in Guitar Hero?
Would the music be in guitar hero if people hadn't already heard it? No. You think most people have heard "Smoke on the Water" - for instance, because they own the album?
You can install Ubuntu faster than Windows. Just burn the ISO to a DVD and install. It auto updates, adding programs is as simple as selecting a GUI menu app and installing them.
Yes, some of the more complicated stuff requires compilation, but out of the box Ubuntu can copy/burn DVD's.
About time. That site was a big scam, when you tried to cancel your account with them, the only way was to actually call them and deal with them hassling you about it.

No matter how badly all of you want something for nothing economically, in the real world, it just doesn't work that way.
Then shut down - your label, all the rest, along with the RIAA - just shut down, completely.
But...
I guarantee there will still be people making music - and perhaps it will be just for the love of the music and not so much for the love of money.

And I don't think the RIAA of old has a place in the 12st Century...
All of the King's horses and all of the King's men, no matter how much in kickbacks they got - couldn't put the RIAA back together again.

Since I still have the originals the quality issue isn't an issue, I can watch the full DVD whenever I choose.
And yes, I use software in Linux to do it, but there's also 5-6 other software programs installed on my Windows PC that can do this too.
