I have a great idea, this would get rid of this "censorship" thing.
Make it so that only registered users can enable an option (maybe on by default) that after a certain amount of "report" button clicks, the comment gets hidden, but just for them.
Those who want to enjoy that awesome feature, must register. The anonymous cowards would see every message normally.
This would help in several ways:
-Provide incentive for registering (RoR! or Reason to Register)
-Only those with the option filter out messages (so no automatic "censorship", more like a mute button that's common in most chat systems)
-Trolls will shut up about censor, since they won't see themselves being filtered.

Since it's not public, the only ones exploiting it are those who have found it in a first person basis.
If a larger group was exploiting, it would have become public already.
Complete public disclosure enables anybody with skill and malicious intent to exploit it.
So, I have to agree that the company should be given a warning shot "fix this or else". Companies will eventually catch on and try to avoid the "or else".
Re: If they don't want your money, you've /still/ no right to the product.
I know what you're saying. I mean, if you're told that you can only ride the bus if you stay at the back of the bus, and you don't want to ride in the back of the bus, but in one of the better seats, then you shouldn't even want to be in the bus. The only moral sanction one has is not to ride the bus at all.
So? Just because a store is licensed to sell CDs of music, doesn't mean they can burn them to mp3 and copy it to all their friends for free, right?
Radio allows people to record the music, therefore it is a significant conduit of piracy. Radio must be destroyed, and any radio station that doesn't "purge any illicit tape recorder" must be closed down.
No, it would be like shutting down a car rental company because it allows you to rent vehicles that allow you to drive to places where cars are being copied.
Radio isn't illegal per se, just like Television as a technology isn't infringing on anything (unless someone is after them for their frequencies... different problem).
However, Radio has significant use as a conduit for piracy, which makes it a real issue. It has been a problem pretty much since the start of "commercial airwave time", and many of the aggregating and filter books have only served to make it even more obvious.
It's the sort of thing that "made" the airwaves what it is, but like any generally illicit activity, it cannot go on forever.
Re: Re: Re: Yup, there's no way that Big Hardware and Big Search are out of touch
Let's see... these are the choices:
-Sign up with Big Label, get ripped off.
-Go independent, get a bogus DMCA takedown on your stuff, and/or get Universal to claim they own your songs and royalties, and get every single channel that you could use to promote your stuff outlawed by RIAA.
Yeah, there would be choices if YOU DIDN'T ATTEMPT TO DESTROY the other choice constantly.
