I loved Taco John's tweet about their copyright on the phrase Taco Tuesday.
Taco John’s holds the copyright to Taco Tuesday giving us the exclusive right to use and protect it.
Bad manners, punctuation and law, all in one tweet.
You know, it seems like most companies that defend their trademark (not copyright) do so with the intention of keeping their trademark from becoming generic, which would invalidate their claim.
A random Yahoo! search brings up over 16 million results, very few of which have anything to do with Taco John's. It seems as though this phrase has become fairly generic.
I think that the Iguana Grill would have a good case to press, if they wanted to spend the money. The sad thing is that they probably don't have the budget to fight this bullying by Taco John's.
I'd like to vote with my pocketbook, but it's not big enough to purchase politicians, so I'm stuck between crappy DSL and mediocre cable, from two companies that suck.

A Dell Mini Inspiron 10 is a netbook, which is a smaller... laptop. Sure, it can be used as a thin client, but you were saying that thin clients are better than laptops, not that the laptops should have been run as thin clients.
Also, I'll believe that $100 estimate when I see it. I paid $249 for my daughter's refurbished Mini 10v, and I have a hard time seeing them go down lower than $200 for the Mini 10v, much less the Mini 10.
I didn't say $1k. I said $1,000+, which is most certainly what a gaming laptop would cost. A laptop covered in diamonds would also fall into this monetary category. ;)
Yes, I agree that thin clients would be alot better for classroom use, which is why I didn't mention them. I just don't think that these laptops cost $1,000+, as you stated.
But since we're talking about it, are there portable wireless thin clients with screens that these kids could take home and use? If there are, I haven't seen them or heard about them. You say that they cost $100? Sign me up!
I'd be happy if copyright only extended to registered works. That would free up SO MUCH STUFF. Also, the 14 year thing, with another 14 years if they re-register.
You realize that speed cameras are notorious for being wrong about who is speeding, right? So... the speeders that you're complaining about may not actually be speeders. You know, kind of how your fellow Australian, David Thorne, wasn't actually selling drugs.

Required defense of trademark?
