Using big words like "pernicious" might get you in trouble. They might accuse you of pirating content from the big dictionary industry. That certainly would not set a good tone for all those new conversations they want. They totally want to have a real discussion with all parties involved. Have you written your check to Chris Dodd yet?
Not all of the newfags are as tech savvy. They wanted a button on the screen, so we gave them one. Then they wanted a button that didn't require them to download anything, so we gave them a javascript version. The same way we gave them a web version of IRC that just takes the click of a link to access, we're making it easier for them to get in on the action. Its basic capitalism and attention is the currency. Cater to your market or they go elsewhere.
We asked them to respect us. They kicked dirt in our faces and called us names.
We told them we wouldn't be kind when pushed too hard. They laughed and spread rumors of false entitlement while enjoying the profits of others' labor.
We told them to expect us. They took down Megaupload.
We returned fire. They cried with regret under OpMegaupload.
It has been confirmed (on IRC), this is the largest attack with LOIC in history.
You missed mine. I made a plugin called CENSOR ME. The plugin demo is still up though. And its on the WordPress plugin registry. It was installed on a few hundred sites. Last I checked the demo site had about 700 unique visitors, most of whom visited yesterday.
And I'm sure the critics will be (s)trolling through the comment threads soon enough, throwing around words like "ripoff" and "uncreative," and citing their unproven ability to create art in a vacuum.
I would leave an uncreative reply, but that would be such a ripoff. I have indeed created art in a vacuum, just ask the flight attendant who used the bathroom after me a week er two ago. I'm sure she's about recovered from the visual awe that caused her to pass out and bump her head.
I like him in the context of cases involving Righthaven (who doesn't enjoy a decent troll war from the sidelines w/ popcorn). I honestly haven't kept up with enough of his other work to judge him otherwise. Thanks for the heads up though.
I do agree with the court's largesse in blocking the private financial information unveiled during the debtor's examination of the CEO and his wife, but I really can't find the strength within, even with my awkwardly sarcastic yet forgiving sense of humor, to give one horridly flatulent moment, let alone a peacefully quiet one, of consideration for the company's downfall. That they dug their own Argentinian mineshaft of a grave is their own miserable fault. They just happened to piss off the wrong properly educated lawyer. That Randazza happens to have both scruples and brains is a miracle alone, but this overextended case study for future law students approaches the divine touch of a true academician.
Attention everyone! I've finally got the CENSOR ME plugin I wrote yesterday up on the WordPress plugin directory. See it in action here. If you operate a WordPress blog and wish to participate in a blackout, its essentially an on/off switch. Simply activate it to blackout and deactivate it to go back to normal.
Hopefully this'll move us past the near obligatory grumbling, fishing stories, and mud slinging and open up the debate a little.

I'd be interested in knowing exactly how sympathetic DJ Schulte is to a hypothetical request by Lamar Smith for permission to continue using the picture. I realize its more or less of moot consequence as Smith's web lackey has likely changed it by now, but it would be a nice contrast for displaying the snense of entitlement that seems to be roughly proportional to the quantity of intellectual properties with an expected positive monetary return on investment.
You forget their cancerous legal department. Though I suppose they may as well have automated away most of the paper pushing involved and hired a single, very irate, law student.
