Second, it endorses a methodology that it well-known to guarantee failure
I agree, however considering that no other vendor has done this -- it somewhat proves what you say -- but in this case we know the vulnerabilities while on the other side, everyone but the vendor and the government knows the flaws and they think the system is secure.
For some reason seems a popular thing to spend fortune on a super fast car so you can drive the damn thing at 25mph in a 55mph zone. So yeah, I bet it would get great range the way most of these morons baby their sportscars and never actually drive them.
You have to see it through their eyes. They just spent a ton of money on proving their man-hood/women-hood and they can't afford the speeding ticket. Cops like sports cars too. They drive me crazy, but then I remember that I don't need to buy a vehicle to prove anything, and I go on my way.
What drives me more crazy is the 70 year old driving the crown vic who drives 25mph while running every stop-sign and stop-light in sight. "This car has only one speed...25mph, and no breaks." Argh!
To the copyright maximalists, everything is simple. You pay the gatekeeper the taxes they are owed, and then you go on your way (with or without the product they "sold" you.)
Where "sold" being "leased" when it comes time to pay the artists, since they don't have to pay the artists if they haven't sold anything. Or was it the other way around. Its all so damn confusing.
You misunderstood. I was saying that you can't keep guns away from criminals but you can keep patents away from corporations since they actually have to follow the law.
Yup. I've got an itchy trigger finger when it comes to the 2nd amendment. Re-reading what you said, I misunderstood.
Though it is kinda interesting that some states are doing everything in their power to limit the 2nd amendment even though, as you say (and I agree,) you can't keep guns away from criminals.
Come to think of it, I'd then start my businesses offering all-you-can eat gigabit internet for a FAIR price and unlimited cellular for a FAIR price... at first state-wide, but then nation wide as I continually reinvest the profits into expanding my networks...
Your idea interests me. Where do I send my money? Maybe kickstarter?
That analogy doesn't quite hold up since patents are weapons that are used lawfully. So by changing the laws you can actually take away the weapons. Try that with guns.
Huh? I use guns lawfully. A lot of people do the same. Ever been to a rifle range or a shooting range? Just because someone shoots a gun doesn't necessarily mean that they have committed a crime. If they shoot at someone, yes, but if they shoot down range at harmless pieces of paper, nope...not usually.
The copyright maximalists don't care that they limit speech, unless it's their speech.
They really don't even care then (ala Starz vs Netflix.) Starz is happy taking the approach of not receiving any money from Netflix customers instead of receiving what Netflix wishes to spend.
To them, its greed. They want all the marbles and if they don't get them, nobody does. I've seen the same attitude on the playground. Most of us grow up, but apparently money stunts your maturity and growth.
Unfortunately, the first book of this series doesn't have an e-book version available and there doesn't seem to be a snippet available online, so I'll have to look in the library for it.
Heh, spoke to soon. Gotta turn off the proxy server. Apparently the e-book and snippet are available in the US.
Added Harry Turtledove to my list of folks I would like to check out. Unfortunately, the first book of this series doesn't have an e-book version available and there doesn't seem to be a snippet available online, so I'll have to look in the library for it.
Like all my other favorite authors, I'll probably buy every book he has available if I like one of his books -- oh, hell, I'll probably just buy his book instead to see if I like it...paperback version is really cheap.
And there's therefore always been a need for defensive driving.
True, and I drive defensively. But when I am driving down the road and the guy next to me keeps swerving into my lane because he reads the newspaper while driving, I have to account for that too.
This is where all the E911 money went. They asked Congress for 300 billion cents, not 300 billion dollars. Congress thought 300 billion cents = 300 billion dollars. It all makes sense.
Sad. I like the "I am not a mathematician." quip... If she doesn't know math, what the hell is she doing in accounts payable?
Re: Re: Re: It was postponed by refusing to share the revenues with the workers
He's no occupier.
Oh come on, be nice. He is at the very minimum occupying his mother's basement while he waits for the billions the Big Content organizations he thinks will pay him to show up.
I just wish people would use their cars for what they were intended for. When I was a kid, I dreamed of the day that I could be old enough to drive a car. Now, every time I am on the road (I enjoy the drive) I have to worry about all the things everyone else is doing while driving.
However, I agree, laws don't fix behavior (they often don't fix anything,) and the only thing that fixes behavior is education (ok, I guess I can also include losing your car in a collision you caused and also a tombstone for the fatal accident you caused, but the best is education.)
What I mean is...it shows a world where corporations ARE the government...you know...lie what the MPAA and RIAA would love to exist so they could censor the net as much as they want
Sorry, got your meaning...it fell by the way-side by my mental orgasm (oh, sh*t, sorry Mike, giving Germany more reasons to block us) of the game itself.
However, I am not sure RIAA/MPAA would like to live in that world as much as they might. From what I remember (I have the original disks, should probably try loading it up again,) the companies hired thugs to come in and kill off the competition. I suspect the "freetards" like Google might be able to find more thugs who are willing to do it for free.
I saw the trailer for the new Syndicate game a few days ago
OOOOOHHHHHH! Yippee. Just a couple days ago I was thinking about how cool it would be if GOG bought the rights to distribute the original game. I might have to break my current blockade on the video game industry to buy the new Syndicate, but only if it is DRM free.
That game rocked!
If the GOG guys are reading this -- Syndicate (Bullfrog) was one of the most awesome games I'd love to see GOG distribute in the future.
Most of the SOPA dropouts occurred after those attacks started.
And yet according to what was said on Techdirt, Godaddy gained a net positive effect. Smaller than they could have if they hadn't put the foot in their mouth and shown support for such a crappy bill...
I believe this is the very definition of free-speech. If I don't like you -- I certainly don't have to buy what you are selling and I can be as vocal as I want to about it. Me being vocal is in no way restricting your freedom of speech.
Many companies did, after they saw the amount of crap Godaddy got about it. The vocal minority tries to shut down the free speech rights of everyone else. "Agree with us or suffer!"

The vocal minority, in this case, is the gatekeepers who try to shut down the free speech rights of everyone else...right? Otherwise this clearly doesn't make much sense, because nobody else is complaining about their free speech rights being trampled on.
