I think the rationale of the corporations must be, "What's the big deal about being physically blind? We're all emotionally and intellectually blind, and we're doing just fine."
Then said administrative agency cannot simply adopt it by reference: it must create its own standard. Note that lists and catalogs are not copyrightable material, so it should be a simple matter to "repackage" the standard into one which can be easily entered into the public domain.
I always thought that there was supposed to be a board of directors to protect the interests of stockholders and keep obvious stupidity like this from occuring. Perhaps we should take a hard look at who is on those boards.
This is what I was thinking. This woman is trying to take the high road when her husband is actually getting money FOR THE PORNOGRAPHER. He is SUPPORTING pornography, not fighting it.
This is certainly taking the concept of what can and can't be patented and turning it upside down. The idea is, a person following laws already existing in nature should not be able to infringe on a patent. Thinking, feeling, life, liberty, persuit of happiness, all that. Now, if a person plants a handful of beans, he has to worry about where those beans came from.
Hopefully, this will lead to Congress limiting and possibly even abolishing the patent system. I'm not holding my breath, though.
So, the NYPD wants to work extra-legally, unethically, in secret, and should be solely responsible for the personal defence of their citizens. Oh, yeah, and you can't record anything they do.
I still don't understand the difference between a cooking recipe, a chemical process, and a pharmacutical formula, except that you can patent the last two and not the first one.
Because it would make society as a whole better, at the expense of the media moguls. And here in the US, more is always better, right? So pretty soon copyright would be cut past the bone, and the fat cats might have to work, or at least revise their business models.
They know this, and will kill anything that even starts to relax copyright.
It's going to take a much larger and stronger movement to really get anything done.
So hunker down, CYA, and expect a lot of failures before we finally succeed.
Let's call it what it is: a witch hunt. We are setting the table for a new round of McCarthy hearings. A new era of squelching human rights in order to secure the American Way, in a way that is not remotely American.
In my opinion, people like Sgt. Mullins should be banished.
This should move the field from its current semi-ridiculed status to full legit. Hopefully they'll move from the sedate-and-monitor system they have now to a test-diagnose-treatment system. The old one was useless. (Full disclosure: I adopted a child who had severe emotional issues.)
Why would anyone "HAVE" to speak English in the US? We don't have an official language. You may want to, but you don't have to.
Which is also why I don't understand the requirement to learn English for naturalization.
Someone either needs to make it the official language, or just shut up about it.
I think it would be a good idea for someone to put a camera or two outside of his place of residence, and post the stream online.
That will leave him to either reconsider his position or face the concequences of taking privacy "off the table." i.e. evernyone will know when he's home, when he's gone, who comes over when he's gone, etc. I'd say he'd crack in 2 weeks.
