Canada should repeal 230 ASAP... like after they pass it.
Remember how people used to say there oughta be a law??
It is now there oughta be a way to sue tech for not fixing this.
But then I called the crazy lady at the center of this crazy & was told off on teh twitters that insulting her just undermined my entire premise. o_O
The bigger problem to me (and shock people disagree) is that this is the new writing on the bathroom wall in high school. We repeat the stuff we see there & then feign innocence that we hard any part of it. People publicly demand anti-graffiti stall walls but they still read, repeat, & act upon what they find written there.
In talking with Kash (what, you're not on chatting terms with famous reporters?) She pointed out that lots of people thought the claims were fake... but still worried that where there was smoke there was fire.
People want to imagine bad things about others to make themselves feel better. A picture on Pintrest with pedo stamped on it is all the proof we need to begin assuming they are a pedo b/c somehow we assume everything online must be true?
This isn't a tech problem as much as its a human nature problem.
Yes Google should probably delist RipOff Report, its a shitty source but that opens the door to the lets just demand they deindex everything thing anyone thinks is harmful and then Google is empty. Why does it fall on tech to tell people that RipOff report isn't exactly an upstanding player in the game, why is it so hard to convince people that a majority of the posts on it are just cranks trying to get even? Why do people treat stuff online like a burning bush handed them sacred tablets of truth?
Kash also noted that after she started working on this after the subject complained that people would find out about her antics on Google...
“Anyone who Googles my name, this will come up, and I don’t want this to come up,” she said. giggles
She uses google to destroy reps & upset it might happen to her.
Why it never occurred to her before that it could happen to her.
All it takes is someone with a grudge or bored
And then sites saying mean things about Kash went up...
Perhaps part of the reason the law hasn't kept up is we keep focusing on the wrong things... this isn't an internet problem or a platform problem... this is a society problem. Someone obviously not mentally well is left to her own destructive devices while we're busy blaming everything but her & our failed systems.

Re: Hi! I'm a shitty poster child!
I admit lately I've not been as prolific as I have been in the past posting here for 'reasons' I don't want to get into. Its not because I end up in moderation a lot but its personal that I don't chose to share.
I never managed to get all of my posts here under the TAC name, it took me a while to develop the idea of redeeming an insult & making it my identity online. If someone went looking you could find the posts, I have a very specific 'tone' & turned up under specific topics.
I grew up as a very closeted terrified gay kid. I expended much effort on keeping my real world id separate from my online id to protect myself.
Without this safe shell to operate from inside of I still might be worried about people knowing I am teh gay. (Y'all can tell I'm feeling much better now) When I first started exploring fetish & kink shocking I know I dipped my toe in wearing another shell because well people are judgemental assholes. :)
A TAC truism comes to mind. Humans LOVE to label things.
(Yes still doing that I'm immortal & not human thing cause I can.. have you seen the people you elected?)
The problem is those labels end up stuff with so much crap they are really really shitty & useless.
Anonymity is the problem!!
Well thats if you include some meddling kids from the internet who helped crash a giant copyright trolling operation in the same group who tried to get the new Mt. Dew flavors to involve hitler and gushing grannies in an online poll.
I mean the lawyers were willing to tell EVERYONE how horrible the mean anonymous people online were... checks I still am not under indictment for doing bad things.
Perhaps their version on anonymous online people being mean only involved trying to use the stupid label to make people think we were something we never actually were?
I make snarky comments, I post inappropriate meme's and I'm pretty sure Twitter is better off for it. If you don't like it, mute me or block me... I ain't gonna cry.
The problem is people who think they have the absolute right to demand that I be silenced b/c my jokes about finding a baker to make me my gay cake upsets them mocking their deeply held beliefs that I am lesser than them. :)
Nearly every online platform has technology to press a button and that unknown asshole who offended you can't darken your doorstep again (or until they make another account), but this can not be allowed to stand!!!!
They offended someone & must be punished!
Something something stop being an asshole & maybe people will stop calling you an asshole??
Much like the 3 trillion underaged hookers who are shipped to the Superb Owl every year, perhaps the truth about bad anonymity is no where near as bad as people pretend its just a pointless label that people shove more shit into that makes them unhappy.
Much like Yelp reviews... Humans RARELY post reviews if they are actually happy with something, so when you look you see 100x more bad reviews & so then that must be a bad place... because you forget you've never posted reviews when you were pleased with the service & assume others do it...
There is a system that lets you sue the bad man who said the mean things online.
The problem is people just want to get paid by the platform who has lots of money instead of random basement dweller who can only offer some bottle caps & half a hot pocket as the settlement payment.
People think THEY are owed a duty by the platforms to never be upset or offended while ignoring that they upset & offend people.
Amazingly I am much more than TAC & I maintain other identities some of which have never made a comment about copyright GASP.
But these aren't just nodding socks to post in support of TAC, they are other parts of me that I don't want touched by TAC.
Not all anonymous people online are the same thing,
stop treating us all the same... or I'll send you dick pics. :D

But but but I thought it was just a few bad apples & they were taking steps to root them out?
Why do they need to break encryption, can't they just ask these good truthful officers to tell the truth? Oh you worry they might lie?
Once upon a time they would actually investigate instead of expecting a computer to do the work for them. I mean no one flies inside the country without ID & records that can be obtained, no car could make a trip to DC from far away without stopping for gas, & y'all get those warrants for Google/Apple to tell you what users were near an area at a certain time...
Its almost like you are now using your own bad apples as a reason to get more expansive powers to spy on the rest of us without oversight... instead of making sure there aren't any bad apples who would abuse this new power still on the job.

They created the monster & now must serve its whims or be Tokyo under their heels... and still after seeing how close they came to a high profile member of their party getting grabbed, 'tried' & executed some of them are still courting this group sure that they will be able to maintain control as some of them learn that Trump wasn't the messiah & for 4 years they were played for suckers giving blood & money to those who never cared about them or their causes.

Stupid people like to comment on TD and claim Mike is a pirate & loves pirates while ignoring that The Empire Strikes Back still hasn't made a penny.
If they tell us a hugely profitable film hasn't made a single cent, how can we take them seriously claiming that piracy is costing them billions and billions?

Do you want your children to DIE!!!!!!!!!!

Student & Teacher hooking up... its a police matter, you let them deal with it. Put the teacher on paid leave, just like cops who shoot the unarmed in the back, while investigating. The last thing anyone wants is a Judge who might actually remember the rule of law & dump a case because the Superintendent had the janitor dl the contents of a phone they seized because they could.
So much time is spent looking for the hidden things, they manage to miss the things in the open. If a student had been texting & hooking up with a teacher you KNOW someone saw them at some point & you didn't need stealth drones following them working as string ray to see if maybe just maybe there is truth to the worry.
