Re: "Pulling music off of Spotify" limits their GRIFTING.
"...MONEY that Spotify is getting..."
You do realise that the MONEY that Spotify is getting is less than the MONEY that Spotify is paying right? Are you saying that a company running at a loss is being greedy? Really?
"Your notions have been proven wrong in court, yet again."
So one court case apparently proves Mike wrong, but the dozens of similar cases that went the other way don't prove Mike right? Way to pick and choose like the intellectual giant you aren't...
"While I don't think the camera on the XBox is as big of a problem as it's made out to be..."
Actually it more evidence of Microsoft's untruthfulness. They say you can "turn it off", but the system won't work if Kinect is not plugged in. You'd have to be nuts to actually believe it's truly off given that restriction. If the customer has no need for it to be connected, why does Microsoft?
Re: Same with Google for "mere" search terms and websites.
"Don't leave out "The Google" when you write of privacy rights."
Let's compare shall we?
Google's data gathering supports a whole range of really useful products and services that most people seem to love; there is no evidence of Google ever nefariously abusing their ability to collect their users' data; and if you don't like them or their actions, you simply don't use them.
On the other hand, the USG's data gathering has yet to be proven useful to the general public other than to provide a false sense of security to those paranoid about terrorism; there is a long and sordid history of governments and law enforcement abusing their access to such data; and if you don't like all this you're shit out of luck.
Do us all a favour and don't ever compare these two things again, ok?
Re: Another rant from Mike defending his "Precious".
"Google exists only by permission of society..."
And "society" seems to be pretty damn happy with the services Google offer.
"This isn't burdensome..."
I would love to hear your proposal for pre-screening the "100 hours of video uploaded to YouTube every minute". It should be good for a laugh if nothing else.
"There are liberal whistleblower laws in the US for this purpose, why would someone intelligent like your son take advantage of the protections it affords.
Protection? Are you joking or have you not been paying attention to the recent persecution of whistle-blowers by the USG?
Secrecy should only be maintained if it's in the public interest. In this case it's pretty clear the secrecy was entirely because the public would be horrified to learn the truth. You may have a moral issue with breaking an oath of secrecy, but surely there's a point where what is being kept secret is not only immoral but far worse than oathbreaking.
Mainstream media seems to be running far more stories on Snowden (daily location updates!) than the actual leaks, even though the leaks keep on coming.
I'm not sure exactly what you think is inconvenient.
His story is interesting but far less important. Those who have the most to lose will try to distract from the massive secret surveillance by pushing Snowden into the limelight. Don't let them.
How about a response this time. If you're so sure of your argument you have to cut-and-paste it, surely you can explain why a person who believes themselves to be innocent should massively disrupt their life voluntarily.
