Up to $1 million prize maybe a bit sleazy but most likely legit.
A business I frequent ran a similar thing... he simply offered a chance at $1 Million with every purchase over $20. He gave away a $1 scratch and win ticket from the local lotto kiosk. Zero risk of him actually ever ever giving away anything but a $1 scratch and lose lottery ticket.
Listing to the CBC Radio (the Canadian Tax payer funded new agency) the other day. They had a nice talk about US and Canadian Coverage.
Canada has tons of coverage and plan to cover every single minute of every single event of the next games and put it all on the internet in real time. AND they want to add commentary to it all in both FRENCH and ENGLISH.
The Canadian media expert basically called NBC backwards. To paraphrase: "How can any organization assume to have such vast control over information that is extremely popular world wide? We have twitter, blogs, phones and TVs that can all deliver the games results instantaneously. Those interested parties already know the results before NBC broadcasts in prime time and will not watch it. In the information age you can even attempt to hold people hostage in hopes they will watch later. NBC just not even get it and their expected lose of $240 Million at the games should be a good learning lesson. BTW: The commercial Canadian coverage is making money (even by distributing it on-line).
If you think Olympic coverage Canada is good it will get better and better each time. They seem to accept that they can not control the information and hence are working hard to make sure they can find other means to profit while delivering the information that people want.
It seems that overwhelming greed and arrogance of the US businesses (and banks) is destroying the life enjoyment of the general people.
The courts need to really set example here and really punish the principle and school board. I would really try to push for child porn charges against the principle.
Our bus driver became really interested when all of a sudden a crowd formed at the back of the bus around Little Johnny and his dad's playboy...
The kids now a days have it to easy; they can surf for porn on there way to school and no one is the wiser.
To me the value added part, "if the New York Times were to offer some new service at the same time that they start charging, they might be more likely to pull it off", interests me.
I would happily sign up pay for a 3 year subscription if it came with a free e-reader that would automatically sink up to the newspaper each morning via a WiFi or 3G Connection. Hell the New York Times could offer other paid papers on their e-reader for a cut of the action.
I like the idea of kindle but do not like the price and lack of usability in my 3G dead zone.
Saw it on TV with NO warning about what you where about to see. I did not really want to see and then see it again in slow motion as he died.
I see no need for it on-line. But it is a news worth event and should be allowed. Morally on the other hand I think people should not show it out of respect for the Georgian luger.
It is all about personnel choice and unfortunately for me I did not know about the event and the news cast about the event was definitely news to me.
Stop eating Domino's food when I walked in and they where using the big pizza flipper (spatula) to clean gum off the front entrance. THEN they used that same flipper/spatula WITH OUT CLEANING IT to take the pizza out of the oven.
I left my order and never ever went back to Domino's Pizza. There are many more local franchises that are better and cleaner with out using the flipper/spatula to clean gum off the front entrance.
Sounds like the law could be used against any political party determine to take control of the government by winning an election. It could be applied to various groups that would like to see a change in government.
Now problem is if your a Subversive group and register are you still a subversive group that no longer needs to register?
Think about how much money they COULD have made.... if not for piracy.
With out the massively huge profits how could they expect to continue. Just like the Banks they might need a bail out.
The phrase: "I'm sure you would also prefer that the forums continue to run smoothly and without interruption" sounds a lot like a threat.
Like when a mob guy comes into the store and says nice store you have here it would be a shame to have anything happen to it... All that was needed was request for money.
Blockbuster business model started to fail and they had no clue how to fix it. They grasped at straws while other innovative companies grew. They lost their edge and it maybe be impossible to regain those lost customers. I know for me that the choice of alternatives is growing each day and I doubt if I will even set foot in a Blockbuster this year.
Hephaestus, You seem to make sense but you forgot the linkage to terrorism. They need to violate your rights and US laws so they can help protect you from terrorist.
Just think of the poor children!
On a more serious note it is good to see some reasonable judgments coming out and a bit more positive spin offs.
I have dealt with a similar issue where a teacher/school tried to control our grade school life after school hours. Some refused and they tried implement punishment for it in the form of detention. At the end of the day I got up and was about to leave when the teacher reminded me of the detention and I said no and I would view the detention as unlawful confinement and if they have any problems they can contact the police. Of the 20 kids they tired to punish for after school actives only 3 of us refused and held our ground.
I am sure it cost all 10-20% off our final mark but felt good to stick it to the teachers. It was really sad that the only self gratification a teacher can get is to bully there students.
BTW: There always is a Cindy in every school/work to talk about when not talking about football.
Just allow the juror to prepare a list of questions and present it to judge who then can clear the list to all parties to give suitable answers in open court.
Given the level at which information can be accessed it will become increasing harder to really enforce any such ban on technology. You just have to trust your juror,
Look up Life time warranty... I had some old BASF products that had Life time warranty stamped all over them... after about 10 years they started to fail. After I talked to BASF their term for life time was the life time of the product - typically 7 years. I tried in vain to explain that when the product dies then it has effectively come to an end and could be 2 minutes after purchase.
I have come to the conclusion not to trust or believe any advertising or product claims.
That was good and surprisingly well written. Judges are people too so with a bit of luck the judge will not hold the humors nature of the response against TSB. Just maybe the humors nature of the response will help enlighten the judge as to the absurdity of the case.
