Betraying the people's trust used to get you removed from office - cf Nixon. In fact he got impeached for bugging himself! Seems like bugging everyone else isn't so much of a problem!
Modern encryption, properly deployed, cannot be cracked by anyone (NSA or anyone else). However, unless you are capable of deploying your own encryption, you are at the mercy of whoever provides the service for you. I'm assuming that the UN has employed a local (US) contractor and that contractor has betrayed them.
Actually there IS a need to change this law. The moment you have a law that says that it is an offence not to answer questions (which seems to be true of this law and RIPA) then you have legitimised co-ercive interrogation. Co-ercive interrogation is effectively no different to torture.
Your best bet is "none of the above". If you are big enough to be worried that the NSA might pass your information on to US competitors then you are almost certainly big enough to host your own stuff.
I suspect that "insourcing" is more likely than switching in response to this.
Each student and participant signed waivers that acknowledged their participation in this training.
given that a waiver is a document that absolves responsibility if something goes wrong it seems we're admitting that the cure might be more dangerous than the disease!
He has "name recognition". That counts for a lot - and since it is not entirely negative in his case I'm sure that some civil liberties organisation will see him as an attractive employee.
You get a trusted friend outside the country to re-set your password. You can then tell them who knows the password - which covers you under the law - but they have no means to get it.
Because the US would have continued the bad behaviour that Manning blew the whistle on unchecked - and the end result of that would have been to increase the hatred for America that is now so common in the middle east - and that would inevitably have cost American lives in the long run.

How on earth can you write a scholalrly critique of Hamlet without including some quotations from Hamlet?
You are asking the impossible.

In reality schools are amongst the most common buildings to be set on fire - but school bus hijackings - never heard of a single instance.

the folly of his vindictive treatment will have been recognised and he will already have been released as a hero
OR
They will have "got away with it" and in any case different people will be in power so the pressure to keep him locked up will not be there.
The current political situation cannot last that long.

Well, arguably, NOT releasing this information could have cost American lives in the long run.

Well you started it with the "spoiled brat" comment .
besides - is 35 years really an appropriate punishment for being a spoiled brat?
