Big headline was the FDA was dropping the hammer on JUUL for the claims that it was safer & demanding evidence proving those claims.
Imagine how much shitty law we wouldn't have to live under or try to fix if they had to produce evidence to back up what they were saying??
Imagine if the BackPage notes they so desperately wanted to hide showing how helpful BackPage was were on the record rather than the incoherent ramblings of people repeating stats from a study of 4 meth users on a binge telling stories about how aliens made them be hookers.

And its the cyber so there is no way to tell who is behind it...
even if its a few guys in the basement of one of the larger insurers making extra bank...

God help me for thinking this, but isn't this RICO?
They are committing crimes to hide their crimes in furtherance of their criminal enterprise of beating and killing citizens.
That Anonymous Coward (profile), 9 Sep 2019 @ 6:14pm
I hope they appeal.
I hope they show the case where the FBI held a family at gunpoint for hours b/c of an ip address b/c they never bothered to see if it their router was secured.
Then they stumbled across the neighbor who WAS the CP downloading asshole.
Justice means we all follow the rules, but now it just is a cover for QI & remaining ignorant of facts so we can get the "bad guys".
If and IP address is a computers name, then why the FSCK haven't we raided the FBI for providing CP & encouraging the creation of more.

The only think that could make this story more disgusting would be if the guy they railroaded was only 5' 5" tall and the robber was clearly over 6'... which would be another reason to do a photo lineup.

Considering we held people in Gitmo who committed the horrible crime of wearing a popular brand of watch (that some terrorists used sometimes), perhaps we have a really bad concept of who is a terrorist.
Personally I feel terrorized that I can be stopped for no reason beyond some prick with a badge wants to see my papers & can still claim they are forged or wrong, detain me for however long it takes their skull size expert to claim I am an adult, then dump me on the street without any possible recourse...
Perhaps its time to accept that we allowed them to become much worse than the boogeymen we thought they were keeping us safe from.

If only there was a federal anti-slapp law.
Knowing that sending questionable legal threats could lead to them taking you to court & having to pay their bills might make a difference.
I doubt it because the butt hurt are going to be butt hurt, there always is a lawyer looking to get paid (Win Lose Draw they get paid), so hitting the butt hurt in the pocketbook might discourage this sort of thing... but y'all is stupid.

Someone might want to ask for a Judge who doesn't think you have to fill out a form with all of your personal details to post online.
He believes Twitter has this information, which once again leads to the idea that Judges should have even minimal understanding of the cases before them.
Now the Judge will be angry that Twitter isn't willing to provide the information, that they don't have, because hes demanded it. He knows one of their people can just tap on a keyboard and pull up entire dossiers on every user... he saw it on tv once.

Because everything we do is on the up and up and there is this whole system in place to make sure the rules are followed.... but when we don't like how the rules make us look, ignore them.
This was a wonderful PR campagin that made the world a worse place.
Sex workers are being killed.
The scant few actually trafficked children are less visible.
People feel that the war was won we got the rich guys.
Why shouldn't the 15 yr old pimped out by her druggie step dad not have the right to sue Backpage??? They made it possible!!
And in the same breath we can't let people sue gun makers for making weapons that made it possible to kill that many people at once.
Pity we can just be honest.
People like sex.
Some people like to do sex work.
Some people do sex work for survival because society has failed to protect its most vulnerable.
We claim to care about our fellow man as we make sure Sex Workers can't have bank accounts, we allow corporations to steal their money b/c doing business with a sex worker is bad!
This case seemed like a good idea to them at the beginning, now they are having problems keeping a lid on the actual truth that they screwed over the platform that was doing the most to help them & now we have no idea how many victims were saved or helped... b/c the "experts" keep multiplying numbers they imagine by 2 million to decide half of the worlds population is forced to sleep with the other half for money.
Someday maybe we could require actual evidence that can stand up to review before doing things.
