something something competing online music services....
that ended poorly for them, why do they think it will work this time?
I mean its not like CBS released 'The Good Fight' from its streaming exclusive to on air... oh wait... they plug you can stream all 3 seasons now...
Lets make it as complicated as we can for consumers b/c the big guys won't give us what we want... I mean they have all of this backend & tech but our content means we shoudl get 99% of the profits.
How about giving up on the whole we'll all have out own streaming services, and focus on getting clearances so you can make sure more content customers want to pay for for is available. Maybe work out the bullshit so you don't have to replace music & screw with peoples memories.

Everyone is worshiping at the altar of AI, it will be better, smarter, faster....
I just have one question...
What perfect person are they modeling the training from?
AI does away with all of the bias and flaws!!!
Except for those left in place by well meaning people who still can't imagine themselves in someone elses shoes.
The AI is taught the 'common wisdom' that we all know...
Priests are good people - Uhhh
Gays are pedophiles - Nope, but the louder the family values guy screams it the more kids hes diddling.
Black people rob everyone - This has absolutely nothing to do with laws that specifically target them, that a white kid & a black kid doing the exact same things have drastically different outcomes.
There is no way to get the bias out of AI, we are tragically flawed teachers who can't see the trees for the forest.
We can't teach morals (points at the flaming failures of the moral majority & others) because we can't follow them ourselves.
KILLING A CHILD IS HORRIBLE, EVERY LIFE IS SACRED!!!
EXECUTE THE PRISONER!!!!
uhhh what?
We want to pretend we have compassion for bad childhoods, broken homes, etc etc... but we really don't. You can feel for the teen who was sexually abused, but you are then afraid to send the wrong message if you don't sentence them to death for killing their abuser.
The best use of AI in the legal system would be making sure charges aren't stacked to the sky to force a plea & to actually push prosecutors to do their jobs when it is clear the law was broken, even if it means some Union head screams at you on tv.
Another good use would be reviewing sentences, we can give it recidivism rates & all the data on people who were convicted of the same crimes & their sentences.
Hell AI could even look at QI cases and wonder if the Judges are brain damaged. AI could show us the flaws in cases with the same crimes but the different outcomes, when justice is supposed to be blind but clearly is peeking.
I would be more interest in seeing AI examine a history of cases & ask questions why the outcomes were different.
AI doesn't care if the shooter was a cop, the AI cares that an armed person forced their way into a home & killed the person who lived there & would remind us what the charges should be, and the union head can scream all they want... but its a computer applying the law evenly in every case without worrying about blue flu & them throwing other cases.

When you consider all the of the completely questionable prosecutions & courts going stupid b/c the ends justify the means... they STILL had to cheat this much.
B/C the law of unintended consequences still hasn't made an impression on these mammalian brains...
The government helped to finance the creation of the internet, with accountability only decided by the depth of the pockets doesn't this mean they should shut themselves down depriving them of assets to fight the claims that they pimped out a child they never met or saw??

Huh... and they told us how the pirates were stealing millions from them... while they were robbing them blind.
How sad it might be that the only quality copies of some of this music is in the libraries of evil evil pirates (read as fans) who worked hard to have lossless copies that often were unavailable at any price.
We kept your most precious creations in a single place, as single copies... I guess the money they saved on not maintaining multiple backups is now biting the shareholders who got an extra nickel in the ass.
Anyone want to comment on how history keeps repeating?
Films on silver nitrate left to rot, some films lost forever.
Handwritten manuscripts tossed into a corner left to rot.
They tell us how important these things are, demand everyone else pay the price to protect the IP, but once again they are unwilling to protect it themselves b/c it might hurt the bottom line. They lied about getting paid, perhaps its time to stop trusting anything they say.

Re: Re:
Why??
It's trendy to blame an entire group for the actions of one person.
Dude shot congresspeople, well he volunteered for Bernie so Bernie is responsible... of course when the shooter is wearing a MAGA hat we can't rush to judgement.
Lets do priests...
Many of them abused children for DECADES, and magically no one knew nothing, yet they kept shifting them to new parishes when things got to hard to cover up. Many knew something was wrong, many reported, many watched as nothing was done to stop it, many never decided perhaps instead of complaining to the Bishops or Cardinals that the police should be informed. Many of them remained silent as a Cardinal(Bishop I forget) told reporters who asked him about the charges he was facing for raping children that abortion was a much larger sin.
Protecting the image of the thing becomes more important than what is right. Everyone involved has some guilt, from the beat cop who doesn't report his partner from stealing apples on the beat to the ones who watched another officer "recreate" video evidence of a crime to the ones who comforted the officer that just executed a citizen in front of his wife/gf & child and waited to call the ambulance. While they might not be doing the sin themselves, their silence allows it to continue. Oh I might not get backup if I rat out another officer... that is a department that needs to be disbanded. When doing the right thing gets you punished how can we wonder why they all end up abusing citizens?
Also - When was the last time someone claimed you were a pedophile or someone into beastiality based on your sexuality? I get it constantly, I also have the power to cause hurricanes, floods, & other natural disasters b/c I thumb my nose at some idiots versions of the imaginary sky friend.
But please lets nitpick over if its 1 or 100...
Its a great tactic.
The country is fighting over if the words Concentration Camp apply to these children being abused rather than actually fixing the problem. Immigration is bad!! gave cover to a couple CBP agents who were serial killers raping & murdering immigrants.
But do go on, I do enjoy how you ignore how I am generalized against daily, that those screaming I am ignorant and prejudiced do so from their ivory towers where nothing bad ever happens up until they get caught raping a kid.
I mean its not like anyone ever told courts I am a terrorist, hacker, identity thief, member of a 'Fanatical Internet Hate Group', pirate and other choice words... They thought if they could show I was ignorant and prejudiced people would believe them... funny how they are the ones going to prison.
Doing what is right is the hardest thing & if you don't even try you are part of the problem.

Nothing will change.
Every politician is terrified of being portrayed as soft on crime, terror, immigration so they put themselves in being hedl hostage by these agencies & those profiting by selling tiger repelling facial expression training.
The fear is so great so they can't manage even a little outrage over the acronym agencies violating our allegedly most sacred rights, because someone might suggest that by punishing them for hassling journalists they want the bad guys to win.
Drug war mean it is totally right to rob innocent citizens you imagine did something wrong without having any real evidence.
Hell they can hardly bring themselves to say anything after seeing a video of a restrained suspect being beaten to an inch of dying, b/c it will get spun into they want the criminals to win.
Sadly we lack the intelligence to notice the pot of water is heating up around us & maybe we should vote for people other than the ones adding a bit of salt and spices to the pot.
These most sacred agencies can't be held to the law, it might look bad in the media... this seems familair...
Catholic Priests
Boy Scout Leaders
Football Coaches
Sportsball Leagues (Pot bad, Beating wife meh)
Just a few bad apples
When did we decide fear of the unknown was a greater threat to us than surrendering our rights & allowing them to be violated just in case it might stop a plot that they put into motion themselves while ignoring the guy who talked for months about shooting up a synagogue.

Re: Before you inflict it on others, endure it yourself
Like I said elsewhere today about the people flogging Google to do better, but they have nothing to offer but demands they do better. They assume if they demand it, it can happen in 22 minutes just like on the sitcoms.
I mock the hairless apes for their ability to blame a thing for their own failings...
McDonalds made my kids fat (we've seen my rants)
The platform made me see horrible things punish them!!!
No, the platform didn't upload the video of the guy murdering puppies... some people are sick fscks & they tried to keep you from seeing it but the person who would have flagged that video was out that day seeing a therapist about crushing depression making your bubble clean and safe caused them.
Perhaps instead of blame platforms, blame the bad actors for once. Dumb enough to upload a video to a platform he belongs to showing himself or his buddies killing animals... pretty sure that video should be turned over to the authorities with the contact details rather than scream b/c it made it on the platform.

Re: Re:
OTA would help
Some of the things we've seen
they need an Office to force feed them the Constitution & test them on it
they need basic science driven into them (they'll steal all the wind!)
they need to be forced to see everytime they cut corporate/high earners taxes to spur the economy all of the people whos lives got much much worse
they need to be held accountable for underfunding those agencies that keep corporations from killing us by cutting corners
that a free market requires they not put their thumb on the scales for a couple players who donate well
I think the larger problem with the public is the few things they see that upset them so terribly much are most likely super tame compared to what they are already removing before it is seen.
It would be cruel, but I think each person cheerleading for more moderators & faster moderation needs to sit through the same moderation stream these workers deal with in a single shift. I bet most of them couldn't make it an hour. They need to come to grips with the human ability to make horrible things, that perhaps someone calling you a nazi doesn't even ping on the radar filled with dead bodies, murders, & the rest of the fscked up shit people want to stick online.
That Anonymous Coward (profile), 21 Jun 2019 @ 11:45am
Damn...
I think we just figured out where we went wrong with Congress.
We left them unsupervised with lobbyists who feed them a steady diet of lies and horrific things... it should no longer be shocking how they behave.
Trying to cover the world in nerf to protect everyones feelings has a cost... its not monetary, its paid for in destroying peoples souls.
If they pay staff $15 an hour, one does wonder how much FB pays them for their services & why they seem to be ignoring these people working for them (via contractors) being destroyed on their behalf. I mean we protested sweatshops making clothes, perhaps we need to protest destroying people to make sure no one sees a nipple on FB by feeding them a steady diet of the worst of the worst until they break, then just plug in another fresh face to turn into yet another broken human.
