I wonder how well he would be doing if he didn't have Marine Le Pen to prop him up. After the presidental election farce several years ago where le Front National did what no-one else could do, get the French Left to vote for a right-wing President, everyone is being careful. Let's see how actually shafted he gets when he doesn't have her to help him.
Records - those vinyl discs that are about 100 years old? And you accuse /us/ of being outdated?
Oh wait, you mean recordings. Sure they are a performance. But they are infinitely reproducible, and generally considered to be of lower value than a live performance. In part, *because of* the ease of reproduction. Read some Econ 101.
Employees have rights to fair employment, etc. They do /not/ have rights to earn money.
According to you, I can turn round and sue the NHS because they have 'infringed' on my right to be paid at previous salary levels (a higher-banded job) and every month they are 'stealing' money from me paying me a lower-band salary! Oh noes! The horrors!
Go get a real day job. Then whine about how much money you're not getting. Somehow I think the rest of us will live without *your* 'art' - and sense of entitlement.
You were the one who made this 'personal' against Mike and the community. You could have made your point without being so rude about everyone's motivations - and so blatantly incorrect and inconsistent as well.
So, we look forward to seeing you posting 'for the little guy' every time one of them keeps being put down by the big companies and content controllers.
Pick a screen name and put your money where your big mouth is.
Hey don't be unfair, they had British rule for a long time, and most of the time since then have been stable and well-ruled (unlike some other places).
"Oh look, how quaint. 13 (+37) colonies have a Supreme (high) Court. Where did they get that tradition from?"
Who is shouting him down? We're simply agreeing with Mike's opinion that it's a pointless waste of money and time and energy, and typifies the 'entitlement' culture that existing copywrong breeds. And is pushed by the big companies that you apparently so hate, yet blindly follow along with.
And of course, there is no way ACTA or TPP will be used to block access to 'anything that happens to look like an expensive patented brand'. Not at all.
If there is no actual danger of this happening, then you should have absolutely no problem with the 'tiny' risk being removed by clearer language. You also shouldn't have a problem with a law being clearer... should you?
So, you represent other illiterate musicians, who jump to conclusions without ever reading articles properly?
Given the number of times this blog 'attacks' big entities because of their attitude to 'the poor starving artist', I think you have it all backwards.
If there already exists a long list of books using a particular trope, many predating an author who is hardly up there with Heinlein, Asimov or Clarke, they are hardly 'stealing' this idea, let alone from this particular gentleman.
Plus, there is the total lack of comprehension of the fact that copywrong covers the particular expression of an idea, not the actual idea itself.
Otherwise, Harry Potter, which 'clearly' 'plagiarises' Neil Gaiman's Books of Magic, would never have got anywhere.
Re: Re: Re: Asserting the right to protect your rights
I think the issue is that specifically onerous terms (like this) are inflicted after a verbal agreement, and without the customers realising that they can negotiate; or maybe they aren't even in a position to negotiate, but this would be deemed inappropriate by a court of law.
I'd also say it's yet another metric that will screw over those who just aren't so good, or are committed to having some life outside a game, or happen not to have tons of money to pour into it.
And that's without all the obvious routes for discrimination.
