"Among the 10 background-check workers employed by contractors who have been convicted or pleaded guilty to falsifying records since 2006, eight of them had worked for USIS, according to the inspector general for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. The personnel agency is responsible for about 90 percent of the government’s background checks. "
Over a month ago they announced that they were just forking it, and that for some reason while the specific hardware was bound to PC or console, they aren't leaving kinect 2.0 out of PCs completely.
They're just making a separate "Kinect for Windows."
It sounds like there are differences in more than just interface, but I don't know why.
Reduced piracy doesn't mean better profits though.
It could, and I'm happy to see people supporting this through licit channels, but it would be helpful to know if eliminating piracy like this, vs taking some piracy because you have asshole policies, is cost effective for the corps. That's all that matters to them at the end of the day, sadly.
Basically, can they make more with high margins on a few customers vs low on more.

This wouldn't be that different from tinting car windows (and will no doubt come with the same panic from law enforcement.)
This statement is actually incredibly narrow. I took it to mean that it would be fair use for someone to make a hat for themselves.
I think the cause of the C+D though was people that weren't making their own, they were making hats for others? Beneath the 'in 'verse' language, I find it annoying that they don't address this more explicitly.
