I applaud your skepticism but these UDID's seem to be extremely legitimate. There are numerous security experts reporting their devices on the list. Here is an example:
Re: Re: Do they care about increasing the number of paying consumers?
I can confirm Ubisoft has to be suffering from this to some degree. I also personally boycott their games. In fact, I demoed Outland on Xbox 360 a few months back and found the game interesting. Went to buy it, and the second I saw Ubisoft's name I turned it off. Game seemed fun, but there are tons of games out there, and I will not support Ubisoft the way they currently release their titles. Granted, since this title was on Xbox Live it wouldn't have any of their DRM but I don't care, it's the principle.
League of Legends I feel is a shining example of the free-to-play model done right. They have a ton of content, and each week they cycle the characters you are allowed to use for free. Not only does that allow you to fully try a character before you buy, but it keeps the experience fresh. On top of that, a majority of items are purchasable from in-game currency, and I feel the game provides a pretty adequate amount of that.
I cannot and will never play any game that has a shred of pay-to-win aspects. Truthfully, I used to play a lot of app games until the App Store allowed in game purchases and every game turned into a sort of trap where it was free but beating the game was impossible without paying. I don't like that sort of experience and there are plenty of choices out there that do not have that feel.

Some people like coffee more than others. I'm sure there is something absolutely stupid from others' perspective that you spend money on that matters to you. I have three sets of over the ear headphones. Waste of money? Yup. Do I care? No, I really enjoy experiencing different headphones.
My point being, guess a show I don't have pirated that is in my collection? The marathon mode alone makes any pirated material I could find sub-par to the real product. Piracy can be thwarted. They need to start fighting that fight through features, not legislation.
It's not about the price. It is the fact that a lot of DVD content is crap with unskippable ads. One of the best series of DVD's I have ever seen were for Dragon Ball Z. In addition to having all the episodes, they also included a marathon mode. This mode removed the intro of the show, and also removed the portions of the show that did "The next time, on Dragon Ball Z". The transition between episodes was essentially seemless. This is the type of quality that should be a no-brainer in any collection, but it is not. They spend more time figuring out how to place more ads and extract more money than they do ever trying to figure out how to make the product better.
Sorry that we can't have a sophisticated sense of humor like yourself, anonymous coward. Unfortunately if you had the ability to read between the lines, I would say the article is more about highlighting the ability of the internet to organize and take action, even if the goal isn't always something noble. It is an event worthy of coverage, particularly since these types of results would take a considerable amount of action.
Do yourself a favor; get off your computer, and get to your porch. We wouldn't want you to miss yelling at the neighborhood kids stepping on your lawn.
I cut the cord as of last year. You can tell pay TV sources are a huge revenue source because not only did the sales person throw every deal under the sun at me not to give up TV on my U-verse account, but now I constant TV offers from AT&T almost weekly.
I still recall the sales person asking this final question: "Sir, what is it AT&T could do to let you keep your TV service?" My reply: "Offer me a package that is 10 dollars a month and consists of 5 channels of my choosing." Surprisingly the representative I talked to says he gets that message a lot, and constantly submits it as feedback to the higher ups, but nothing changes.
Yeah, because they don't announce right on the site that they have a subreddit. And Reddit is famous for being incredibly difficult to sign up for and join in the conversation.
I believe him on this front. Like it or not, piracy is wrong, but again, they are largely to blame for piracy. They underserve their consumers.
I always summarize my view as this. I have Netflix and Hulu Plus, which I love. I pirate any other cable shows if I really want to see them. I also don't like doing it, because I have to search for a good torrent, download it, upload it to my server, worry about disc space.. OR.. stream it through a simple interface. I stand before Hollywood a willing consumer with no price effective solution.
I've seen both George W. Bush and Kwame Kilpatrick receive a second term. I'm willing to believe anything is possible at this point. (I would love to see it too)
"Global warming deniers". Cato didn't conclude that global warming isn't happening, but rather that the impact our footprint was having was largely exaggerated by the Bush Administration and the media. You realize our planet is in a constant state of change, and that includes weather, right? It's not an epidemic caused by us, it's the way our world works. It changes.
Hey dude, if you read the article this one paragraph issued by the judge shuts down your entire followup:
"Copyright holders know precisely what materials they own, and are thus better able to efficiently identify infringing copies than service providers like Veoh, who cannot readily ascertain what material is copyrighted and what is not."
That would be great if they could magically prescreen all their content for legality. Their business model is hinged on reality, unlike your opinions.
