They will ignore the letter. To agree to leave this alone for now will mess with their egos. After all they are busy apologizing to the lobbyist, and now that they have them back in their pocket... it's time to make them all happy, to hell with the public money rules.
You better believe those lobbyist had a nice talk to every one of them that said no. I don't doubt they were threatened. If Dobbs will announce to the world his distaste in the Bill not getting passed... What makes you think Dobbs and the rest of those mongers talked to them any better in private?
I am not good at this, but I believe it is time for President Obama to say if he is for fair use or not, and what constitutes as fair use so this can move on to the next stage. As long as the White House does not take a stand one way or another fair use is open to anyone's interpretation for which can be abused.

This pdf is from 2006. What I want to point out though is I heard also from someone that has been there that it is three times as bad today from the year 2006. China is nothing but a bootleg Country. They sell, trade, and ship overseas, and are the number one major player when it comes to pirated goods. http://www.uscc.gov/hearings/2006hearings/written_testimonies/06_06_08wrts/06_06_7_8_chow_daniel.p df
It is so bad that people on G+ are organizing a boycott against anyone that supports this Bill, and any business too involved. Including:
MPAA six big Hollywood studios:
Walt Disney Motion Pictures Group (The Walt Disney Company);
Sony Pictures Entertainment (Sony);
Paramount Pictures (Viacom);
20th Century Fox (News Corporation);
Universal Studios (NBCUniversal)
Warner Bros. (Time Warner)
RIAA The board is currently made up of:
Cary Sherman - RIAA
Colin Finkelstein - EMI Recorded Music
Bill Hearn - EMI Christian Music Group
Deirdre McDonald - Sony Music Entertainment
Terry Hemmings - Provident Music Group/Sony Music Entertainment
Kevin Kelleher - Sony Music Entertainment
Thomas Hesse - Sony Music Entertainment
Julie Swidler - Sony Music Entertainment
Luke Wood - Interscope Records
Jeff Harleston - Universal Music Group
Zach Horowitz - Universal Music Group
Mel Lewinter - Universal Motown Republic Group
Craig Kallman - The Atlantic Group
Paul Robinson - Warner Music Group
Bob Cavallo - Buena Vista Music
Glen Barros - Concord Music Group
Mike Curb - Curb Records
Michael Koch - Entertainment One U.S.
Tom Silverman - Tommy Boy Entertainment
Steve Bartels - Island Records
The boycott is being scheduled for the whole month of March.
Maybe the copyright police mongers knew that some of the best Independent musicians were at Megaupload so that gave them even more incentive to go after Megaupload?
A bipartisan group of House members has begun drafting the Online Protection and Enforcement of Digital Trade Act (OPEN), a compromise bill.
The OPEN Act secures two fundamental principles. First, Americans have a right to benefit from what they've created. And second, Americans have a right to an open internet. Our duty is to protect these rights. That's why congressional Republicans and Democrats came together to write the OPEN Act. But it's only a start. We need your help: sign up, comment and collaborate to build a better bill.
I wont post names, but it should not be very hard for you to figure out who are the major players in the News media online.
They have had a busy week moderating members, deleting accounts, and avoiding the SOPA like it was something communicable.
I would not give any high fives just yet on this Bill not passing. Congress has a bad habit of passing laws behind the public's back when they least expect it. Be diligent everyone.
After successfully raising the dead... The RIAA rest assured us; "they will be going after zombies next". The RIAA firmly explained; "NO one is above, or below "our" law."
I don't know why the RIAA whines so much they have their lobbyist sitting in congress bowing to their every word. Hell if I could get congress to bow to me I would be happy as hell.
/s
Oops! My bad sorry. None of them in Congress know how the Internet works.
But really for a bunch of law makers/lobbyist trying to pass a Bill that they feel is right, there sure is a bunch of people saying it's wrong. Both can't be right, and sense the bill was made by a bunch of RIAA and MPAA wing nut lobbyist I say the proof should be on them. They must prove there is a piracy problem and they are losing millions or billions. I say they don't have a chance in hell proving it.
Their problems are caused by tied up courts trying to prosecute grandmas, and dead people. Paying outlandish fees to lawyers.
If Congress has their heart set too pass a Bill, then have them pass one to get rid of frivolous lawsuits, Proof of a case before trial is or could be a great way for all of us to save lots of money.
Getting those lobbyist out of Congress would be something to help/benefit EVERYONE. When money talks laws tend to go south, and don't help the public good of the people.
Re: Re: "undermining our nation's national security"
So far counterfeit goods is a great business to be in if you are in China. You can lock up people here in the States right and left, but unless you deal with China the counterfeiting of goods will be prosperous. If they don't sell to the USA, then they will sell to Russia, etc.
They have not gone after China because China does a whole lot more than counterfeit goods. The US has to come up with some way to get China to buckle down without pissing them off. That's the problem.

On the post: Why Does The Government Fear Free Speech?
Free speech gives the public a voice to point out corruption that would remain hidden otherwise.
Free speech gives the public a means to object to what they are trying to push onto the public.
Free speech can give the people truth.
Free speech creates fear because the public may listen, and believe.
Free speech means freedom of the press, which means no Government control.
