The republicans are poised to take control of the Senate and John Thune will be the chairman that deals with these issues. He has already come out saying that the 1996 Telecommunications Act needs to be scraped and in the new one there needs to be much LESS regulation...in essence he wants to guy any remaining FCC power...so much for any rules at all...
It seems as though if they filed charges and through their screw up they got dismissed, how can they refile them without this being a double jeopardy situation???
I'm sure you could get an expedited revue by the FCC in 2 years instead of the normal 3. Its ludicrous to think the FCC will have any intention of doing any case by case complaint investigation. Appoint a lobbyist...dont be surprised when consumers get screwed
The American people are so demoralized with a government they feel they have no say in, so propagandized at every turn, and so entrenched in their own political right/left BS that this will happen and people will accept it as the new norm. Its sad and pathetic. If people really feel that this is a bad thing...get off your butt and get busy doing something to make the people that represent you know this is an issue that will determine how you vote, and get other people to do the same. Unfortunately most intelligent people that have a clue have been gerrymandered into districts where you'd be preaching to the choir. One bright spot is that all these right wing nut jobs like Marsha Blackburn will soon see what happens when you let monopolists go unregulated...even her constituents have to pay the cable bill (if they even have cable)
It looks like Krugman has realized that he needs to do a little more homework on the issue. He says as much in todays blog. Looks like Dean Baker and others taking him to task has had a positive result. A lot can be said of Prof. Krugman, but a noteworthy trait is that he is willing to go back and look at things when he is wrong and reevaluate his position. My guess is when he digs deeper he will be mortified at his first position.
Fix what Kevin Martin and his goons created by reclassifying them all under title 2 common carrier regulation...the FCC could do it without even making congress vote on it. Only problem is the FCC chairman lacks a pair and keeps forgetting he is a regulator
What about the RIAA??? Certainly they have some liability in this worthy of them being sued. Hell, they were the ones that instigated the whole process! It kills me that this is not getting the kind of MSM attention it should
I think this might be a product of a judge that is overworked because congress (more like the R's in the senate) cant see fit to approve judicial nominees. There is nothing in this judges background to suggest that she is a government pushover, or a hack for the RIAA/MPAA (she was the first female president of the CA bar, Clinton appointee, and she is from LA). I really think she has a clerk who IS an industry hack. Of course, this is speculation on my part but it seems to make sense
I did, and there really isn't much to indicate this judge would have an overwhelming bias. She was the first female president of the CA bar. She has a rather distinguished resume. I'd probably want to know who is clerking for her (thats where you will probably find the industry insider)
