I remember a Science Fiction short story in Galaxy or Analogue, back in the 60s or 70s along the same lines The news services depicted the terrorist as a crazed cartoon figure with a knife between his teeth, a cannonball bomb with a burning fuse in one hand and a gun in the other. I thought at the time it was a good idea.
Re: You just didn't hear about any of the other mocking because those other religions don't breed psychotic fanatics.
1/ That's not only not entirely true. Christianity is more genteel these days because of secular social change in Western countries (not so much in some 3rd world countries, though). Christianity does however have a long history of psychotic fanatics, with out whom South America and Mexico would probably not be Christian, with those who would not convert, having been put to the sword.
2/ I still haven't found much if anything in the way of satirising religions other than Islam, by Charlie Hebdo, so if anyone can point me to anything that supports the assertion that Charlie Hebdo, in fact, satarised other religions as mercilessly as they did Islam, I'd like to see some links.
It merely implies that you couldn't be bothered to use another approach.
Or that the other side has left you with no other choice. Of course any faith based belief system is going to find itself in that position, by the very nature of faith based belief systems.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Resorting to threats and/or violence = Admission that your position can't be defended with words
Except Hitler wasn't an Atheist, he was a Catholic, and many of his Nazi followers were followers of various Germanic/Norse Pagan beliefs. Except for the fact that there was no god as chistians understand it, Communism was much the same as any god based religion, with it's adherents killing non believers in exactly the same fashion, and for much the same reasons.
That's the problem with religiously held beliefs, they are irrational. Atheists are no less capable of irrational belief systems than Theists. It's the fact that the belief is based on faith that makes it dangerous, not the inclusion or exclusion of a god.
It doesn't even make sense. But of course Artists, and Authors should have copyright, it's the Corporate publishing and recording industries that shouldn't.
That's why I publish all my music under a CC BY NC licence. That way if the corporate media industries think my work is good enough for them to make money from they can beg me for a license to do so.
Mine is such that I release all my music under a CC BY NC license. If any of the Corporate Media people think my work is good enough for them to make money from they can come beg me for a licence to do so. Everyone else is free to use it, copy it and make derivatives.
There's nothing in that license that stops me from making money from my work.

And the commentator apologised for THOSE words. Is this what this whole shit storm is about. I'm sitting here staring at the screen in disbelief.
What particular part of that is insulting? What particular part of it is so insulting the commentator had to appologise? What particular part of it was even mildly inappropriate?
Re: the only nation we hear about in the leaks is the USA
At the moment, I'm almost inclined to say I don't give two fucks how this affects America, except that it's probably going to affect Australian taxpayers even more, so I have to care what the TPP is going to do to the US, because it will screw over every other Pacific Rim country, just as bad, or worse.
I guess those of us who aren't Yanks, are getting a little over the US centricity of TPP reporting.
I have yet to discover what the actual differences are between Democrat and Republican, so far as I can tell one has an Elephant as a mascot and the other a Donkey, but I'm not sure which, and I'm not sure it matters.
I was about to ask that, I keep reading about her on here so much, so this time I went to YouTube and played some of her videos.
I don't think the world would stop turning if she quit the music industry.
Regarding the article, I read some stuff on other sites, such as the register, and it seemed wrong to me. It's good to read something that puts context on the whole thing.
An interesting suggestion put forward by someone on The Register is that Maybe the whole thing was a PR stunt to get free advertising for Apple's service.
Search Engines should not be censoring search results. The unintended consequences are to numerous and dangerous. The road ahead is slippery enough as it is.
Not just to the average and poor Americans, If/When the TPP gets signed we all get screwed... average and poor Australians, Canadians, Argentinians, Japanese, New Zealanders, and all the other Pacific countries.
