Sorry to tell you, but as Americans, we don't speak other languages, so we have an anti-translation technology to stop other countries from translating our pirated shows. For those in the UK, we try to spell out color and armor as many times as we can until they shut the show off in disgust.

I always meant to read this author because I love science fiction and fantasy, and in school he was always hailed as a great writer by all my English teachers.

WHY DO YOU FORCE ME TO CAPITALIZE ENGLISH OH RED SQUIGGLE LINE??!! Maybe I don't think it deserves to be capitalized. In the end, I have bowed to the almighty squiggle line:(
At last he didn't download a pirated cd, that is 12 songs, 12 counts of felony infringement, that is 120 years in prison. So yes, the Ravhi guy should get tried as an infringer, that kiss was protected content. 10 Years and Deportation....
I am frightened by your lack of worry about someone you are voting for. They voted consistently for 10 years then flip flopped over one of the major issues of the day? That is not concerning? In the face of self interest, he had no problem setting fire to his self proclaimed ideals. In turn, once in a seat of unequaled power in the free world, what would he do in the form of self interest? I mean, what kind of bribes would people offer the leader of the free world? Honestly, I am more frightened by the thinking process of people like you than I am of any corrupt politician, because you are the person that puts these people in power.
#1) I have 5 different news widgets(or whatever they are called) on my iGoogle page. Altogether I have 45 articles of news headlining at me and constantly getting updated by the minute.
#2) When I hit a pay or subscriber wall in any news article, I simply close the page and find the same article on another site, often whatever the subject is has a press release for free online with whatever company or interest group is involved.
#3) I see no difference most of the time between journalists and bloggers when it comes to news. You can tell when someone is being paid to do a hack job or a praise fest, and when it is something that is truly unbiased news, or a passionate subject for someone. Not hard to tell which of those 4 it is, just hard to tell if someone actually went to school for it.
#4) Why the fuck do we continue to butcher paper for journalism? Digital consumption is easier to consume, easier to source check, easier to connect to. It is funny when you do background on some of these news writers, and when they do a pro apple piece you find out they own stock in apple.
#5) Fuck anyone stopping my digital ride. You try and stop me and I'll go around you or through you, get the fuck off the road Grandpa!
It is funny how views change down the years for me.
I grew up in California. The public school system and my parents dosed me with a heavy sense of nationalism. It was not until I got caught up in the system that I started to question it.
Weed did not kill me, or anyone else I knew that smoked it. As a matter of fact, all of my friends that smoked it went to college and got degrees from computer science to law. I was told in fact in school and by adults that drugs would kill me.
Then I saw them drinking and acting worse than weed ever changed people. And that was legal. So in my middle teens I learned a valuable lesson. Law does not equal morality. Morality has it's place in society, but determining what is moral and what is not is a dodgy area, because special interest will pick up the moral flag and drop it when it suits their agenda.
So how to decide? I can only do what I think is right, and follow the laws accordingly based on the risk I am willing to take for what I believe in.
So the question gets harder when I try to determine not only what I believe, but what I would like to have my children believe.
I worry for my 4 year old son and morality and legal decisions he will have to make growing up in a land where right and wrong are only tools that the government(i.e. special interest) use to strip you of your rights.
I have some outdated beliefs that I do not want to pass on but it is difficult for me to let go of. In the end though, my fears for my children's well being are sharp and visceral.
If I teach them justice and fire in their beliefs, they very well may be persecuted. Unfortunately, the other option is to try and suffocate who they might be or become.
My 4 year old is potentially going to grow up in a world where resources are dwindling and population continues to grow, and morality will possibly be bypassed by survival.
That terrifies me, and is driving me to a point where I feel like I may have to make some risky revolutionary choices at some point to defend the future and freedoms I want him to have.
I don't believe that the corporations will let go of the profits and laws that hold them in power without blood and sacrifice. This idea, which in America 20 years ago seemed far fetched and crazy is reaching a critical mass at a faster pace every day.
We will innovate and protect our freedoms, or we will see blood, mark my words. You see it world wide, governments people bled for taking back freedoms at a rapid pace for the good of society. Follow the money friends. I will stop my rant, but these are a chunk of my fears, and these censorship laws never lead to a happy society.
I see what the comment box is doing now, it is trying to force me to put a space separating my paragraphs. How irritating... what if I don't want to learn anything, want to sound ignorant, and don't care...like a spoiled child or a geriatric
hollywood executive? And I have to capitalize hollywood? NEVER!
So I was reading through the comments on a yahoo news blog about the redbox delay negotiations, and I was about 30 comments in, and there was not a single person that could understand why the studios didn't want their money, the people
that mentioned they actually bought dvds/bluerays mentioned that either they would only watch first before purchasing, they would wait for it in the 3 dollar bargin bin, or they would go pirate it in disgust. This is yahoo news where infantile trolls run rampant, and not one person was trolling. It was amazing how deaf hollywood is.
Amazon is a superior environment for me to shop in. I am a prime member, and the only beef I have with amazon is their dismal protection on their movies(which I will not buy them because of this), otherwise I am a loyal amazon customer(I still rent movies through my roku with them), and am very happy with the shopping ecosystem I play in for digital items, books, and electronics. I pay more for some items because I would rather do business with a company that makes my experiences easy and enjoyable.
I do not engage in piracy. The reason being is I do not want to risk being on the wrong side of the law. Another reason is I do not want to give my computer exposure to viruses and spyware. The main reason is I think it is wrong to steal something that doesn't belong to me. That being said, I don't see any moral problem with pirating something you have already
bought, or pirating something that is so unreasonably licensed that it is not released in current media consuming devices. Fuck George Lucas for example. I wanted to buy both of his trilogies digitally so I could watch them with my wife and son. 100 bucks? So what, it was worth it to me. To my surprise it was not available digitally, not to buy, not to rent, NOTHING. I just bought a digital copy of Reckoning from EA Origin to play(terrible on pc btw, won't let you key bind movement or attack differently). To start the program I see my pc is connecting to the internet to check licensing, and god knows what other information this software is porting to EA. Really, to play a single player RPG I have to check in online to play? FUCK EA. Now, I am looking at this as a war on the consumer. In war there is no right and wrong, only winning and losing. I wanted peace, but you delivered blood and not flowers. So I say this now. I am going to develope a neigborhood filesharing network that does not use the internet. Good luck getting another penny from me, all of you license nazis.
