Re:
"Why would anyone want to invest in R&D when their ideas get ripped off 10 minutes later?"
An idea is mostly useless unless it can be implemented properly...in the market. The patent system no longer represents innovators who come up with a design and successfully bring it to market to benefit the public. Patents were a tool to help protect the innovator. Now there is a patent market, where the ownership and dealing of patents only, is used to gather up as many patents as possible and sue competitors and actual innovators.

Oh, the sheeple will do something...re-elect 'em even though their approval rating is around 15%. If we are electing fools that the populace thinks only 15% of their work is good, what do we expect from the people they hire to run their government?

And slaves could always run away and deal with the consequences. What's your point?
Of course, slaves didn't voluntarily sign into a contract.
You do realize that nobody ever said that, right? Not even the President.
Well, no the President did say that exactly. This is what he said in full context:
"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business—you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."
Which was surely twisted to say something he didn't mean. Unless, of course, your business was road and bridge construction. =]
Although my statement was more based on what many believe that the rich don't deserve what they worked for. That is the main point of OWS. I don't disagree that there are problems with the system of corruption allowed by the government/corporate partnership. On the flip side, all the people who took out $40k in student loans to get a graphic art degree shouldn't expect an engineering salary straight out of college. OWS opposes government bailout of the rich while asking for a bailout from their student loans.
Whoa! This is way off topic and probably better for some other website.

Re:
The government of Guyana is held to the laws of U.S. Copyright? If they break some treaty that other government officials were strongarmed into 20 years ago then they must be willing to live with the consequences. I am sure they are on the naughty list now. I have been there. If you buy a soda at the corner store (in bottles) they dump it into a plastic bag and give you a straw. You say they have money they just don't want to pay it. Well, the publishers could have taken the money they were willing to pay. Now the publisher gets nothing. Somebody else filled in the gap. You realize it would be cheaper to buy every kid a tablet and an internet connection then buy books for the school system. That is why you hate the internet...you don't have a stranglehold on information nor it's method of delivery.

Re:
We don't question that there are attacks, we question the need for more broadly, poorly written legislation that adds no security to critical infrastructure, coughs up private information without question, and adds another inefficient bureaucratic nightmare of compliance and fines. Cybersecurity experts shouldn't need a law to figure out how to stop attacks.

They are all puppets to me, man. A vote to either candidate is a half-wit vote. You have to turn a blind eye to 80% of either candidates' actions to believe either is worth your vote.

Re: Re: Re: Union bashers
Slavery? C'mon! They could always break contract and deal with the consequences. It seems like so many don't want to deal with the consequences of their decisions. Somebody works hard, is smart, and gets rich, he didn't do the work, it was thanks to the government. If somebody takes the pointless, easy degree from the university and ends up un(der)employed it isn't his fault either. Bailouts for the rich. Bailouts for the poor. Bailouts for the ignorant. When does it ever end? Are people ever going to take responsibility for their own screw-ups?

Many of the label’s artists are unhappy being viewed merely as “assets” or “pawns” in a game that is set to be in the best interest for the powers that be.

Oh! The Humanity?
Ah yes, a social engineering attack for which no cybersecurity law could ever prevent. No matter what you do you can't prevent stupid, gullible people from doing what they do.

True Crime
I would suggest that the studios, labels, and industry lobbyist organizations are very organized and it is criminal what they have accomplished and that they continue to pursue the expansion of copyright to the detriment of the public and pass crony capitalist legislation that will entirely remove our individual freedom.
