Re: Re: I wish every law was measured by its success
It's easy to do, and with the right system 100% impossible to trace...
Yeah you might get my ISP to say I went to that place and downloaded that much but by the time you get to that place the logs are long burnt! You'll never know what it was.
Well put Marcus. To the AC all I can say is then tough titty...
This the digital age where I can download a brand new TV show straight off of a hard drive in New York City as a 350MB file 20 minutes after the end credits rolled.
You point out historical obstacles that are now only there to make people wait and pay more... well that's a shame, I'm willing to pay, but this is 2011 and not 1984. Get with the times.
Citi analyst Mark Mahaney breaks down some of Google’s opportunities for new billion-dollar businesses in a new research report he released this morning. In particular, he focuses on two of Google’s most promising growth opportunities: YouTube and local advertising. According to his estimates, YouTube’s gross revenues hit $825 million in 2010, and will reach $1.3 billion in 2011 and $1.7 billion in 2012. After stripping out revenue share, the net revenue contribution Google will get to keep from YouTube is estimated to go from $544 million last year to $1.1 billion in 2012 (see table above). Mahaney also tracks ads on Youtube’s Topp 100 videos. Currently, 81 percent of YouTube’s Top 100 videos show ads, compared to about 60 percent a year ago.
What if they are only getting the movies, albums and books because they are free and readily available... what happens if the "soft middle" American downloaders all stop downloading but don't legally consume any more than they already did? Will that be a success? Will that be measured as a "Win".
My take on this is that if you stop piracy, which being involved in filesharing since the dawn of BBS I think you don't stand a chance of doing, and don't offer similar systems where people can obtain content at a price that is right and at a time when they want it then you could actually see less sales.
But would that happen after SOPA comes into force? You can't answer that can you, you can make a guess that's all... and that's why you will never get it, you make the law to be black and white but laws aren't like that they are open to interpretation.
Doesn't matter a jot, get rid of all the worlds indexing sites and piracy will still occur, write down your postal address and I'll send you a hard drive full of the latest movies, TV shows and music...
Everytime you stop something from working to share files we'll just create something new and start again.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Yay for "Maria Pallante, the Register of Copyrights"!
oh and don't forget that even though they need SOPA to stop all the "piracy" they continually keep posting those record breaking quarterly results and keep ramping up the stock options available to their double digit million dollar earning CEO's.
I want to buy... I want to buy HD or SD versions of the latest movies that I can watch on my TV. I want to go and watch the latest blockbuster movie at the Cinema but also buy a DVD of the film on my way out if I like it. I want to be able to watch the latest American TV programmes streamed to my UK address on the same day as its aired in the US. I want to be able to buy music digitally that reflects the limited cost of the downloaded files as opposed to the greater price required to recoup the costs of the CD, insert and plastic case....
Not only that but he wants to put thousands of people out of work as both small and medium companies/websites have to close due to the "possibility" that they "may" have infringed on someones copyright.
Obama? How many people who voted for him found that soon after he became President he flip flopped on them and went from talking about open/transparent government started to be the complete opposite?
So you don't like Ron Paul, whoppie doo... at least he seems to be consistant on highlighting the damage being done to the Constituition in the name of big businesses and how America should go back to worrying about itself and not quick to jump into wars thousands of miles away that never seem to end.
Re: Re: Re: It's not "media piracy", it's "content" piracy.
They do... and tech industries make a lot more money and contribute a much larger % towards GDP.
Tech companies do not utilise someone elses content.
This isn't a Content Industry VS Tech Industry, this is Content Industry VS The People. Restricting access to websites on the say of some corporation without going before a court of law is censorship.

Wanking with words, you must be surrounded by crusty tissues as you obviously get your rocks off spouting this rubbish.
I'd recommend a session at Pornhub or Redtube.
