And if it is used for the enjoyment of the individual who owns the radio?? What then? Are they not entitled to use their personal property at a time and place of their using to listen to a public broadcast? So yes, it does matter. If the hairdresser is using it for their own enjoyment they shouldn't need a license. If their clients happen to listen and enjoy it, too freakin bad. Don't let the radio stations play it and no one will be any worse off, except of course the artist, the label, and the collection society.
Re: Ok! So then I can buy what I want, right? (take 2)
As I said before, I do have a copy of Song of the South, and it is legal. It is NOT on DVD. It was released in Europe on VHS in the PAL format. It can still be found around the internet although I do not believe Disney is currently distributing it.
While I agree that others than US citizens have concerns regarding ACTA, those concerns should be voiced towards your government and their participation in the negotiations. We are not at the point yet where any government feels the need to listen to citizens from another country. In fact, I question whether we are even to the point where government officials feel the need to listen to their own citizens.
Actually, I think his response is accurate in both cases. He does say he doesn't think the soldier has much, if any, kind of a case, and he also thinks the producers and the US Copyright Group are idiots.
And you believe Mike would object to this why?? As he has stated numerous times, anyone can copy the information on Techdirt, and, in fact, it has happened before. Mike doesn't even get upset if they fail to give credit as to the source of the info. I don't have links to the many post where this has been stated, but I'm sure someone would be happy to post a link.
Despite the lack of capital letters, I don't think it actually is TAM this time. There actually seems to be some logic in the thoughts and, it seems almost sarcastic towards the publishing industry and their desire to fight piracy.
While I won't speak for Mike, you seem to have the basic idea of what I think about the current system. As much as I would love to see it all reformed, it won't happen very quickly. As a result, innovation will be choked until a new system can be put in place.
I personally feel that no patent system at all is better than what we currently have, and the same goes for the copyright system as well.
