If I direct message someone, is that public? You cannot find it via Google or by following either party involved. Should that be considered public, just because I used the Internet and Twitter?
If either party just produces something you are unsatisfied with, then you are "just throwing away your vote" there too. Might as well throw it away someplace where at least you are making a statement. If enough of us stop supporting the two ruling parties, we might be able to affect some change.
But we never will as long as you reject the possibility of an alternative.
What an absolute flagrant lie! In the last three elections, I have voted for people who promised to do one thing, and then have been absolute traitors by turning around and doing the exact opposite. Obama is a perfect example, but it happened with Bush before him, and with local politians as well.
*I* have never taken a bribed, or changed my opinion or position for money or favors. I have never felt that everyone is below me, or is a thief by default. I don't believe that the government is best suited to fix all ills, and neither are businesses. I served my country by defending from foreign aggression onboard a submarine.
I do not want or deserve the travesty of a federal government we have now, and I am personally affronted and offended that you would suggest otherwise.
Did you miss the entire paragraph where this was explained? The takedown author is named because 1) The DMCA requires it, and 2) There are so many incorrect take downs, you may need that info to challenge. There were 22 examples of that linked to in the article. Isn't that enough reason?
Netflix sues every studio that provides them with movies that DON'T have subtitles for selling them illegal material.
There's GOTTA be a way to make the studios liable for this, since they're the ones saying that you can't just do subtitles yourself. If you gotta have subtitles to be a legal product, then why are the studios allowed to provide the film without them?
The music industry wants it both ways, and that ain't gonna fly. They want us to BUY the music, but we don't OWN the music. How many times do they think is the right number to buy an album. Hmmmm, let me see, being an old fart, I've bought the same album on vinyl, 8-track, cassette, and CD. Each time, for almost the exact same amount, around $12 - 15 dollars. So when did I own it? See, they don't think I do. And so I need to buy it again on iTunes, and then on the next format when they design it. So music companies want to have someone else write once, and we pay often. Do they really think that's going to work? I say f' that.
"Didn't we petition the president for Chris Dodd to be arrested and put on trial for attempting to bribe the president? Why is he still walking around free and giving speeches? Put this bum in prison already."
And the White House has already responded. "We Don't Do That" and now that petition isn't even listed on the site.
Perhaps we should just keep doing it again and again until they get the message.
But the only solution to a "too big to check" is to have an algorithm that checks, WHICH THIS COMPANY HAD. So effectively, you are saying that there's no way for them to win. Or that the only solution is a perfect algorithm.
Let me know when you write that.
The simple truth is that this is overreach by the government pure and simple. And the fact that a business can be shut down, and the investigating officer can be too busy to look into it FOR DAYS is inexcusable and SHOULD BE criminal. But of course, the law will PROTECT the abuser, while punishing the innocent.
This kind of security theater is to comfort the sheeple. It accomplishes nothing, but gives our "leaders" something to point at and say "See, we're keeping you safe". Right up until the next incident. The terrorists look at what we are doing, and then plan their actions around it. Just like the last time, and the time before that, and the time before that...
Those who accept this "to be kept safe" deserve not our anger or frustration, but our pity. Their ilk can be found in every dictatorship, quietly accepting whatever they are told. Sad, really.
I actually am glad that at my age, I will not see the unpleasant end result of the continuing landgrab of liberty. I feel sorry that my children will have to go thru the inevitable American Revolution II.
I don't think DVD rentals are going away anytime s
Too many people are forgetting that the reason that everyone thinks that downloading movies is cool is because they haven't done it yet. Once they spend money, and a month later have nothing to show for it, this song will change. The only way that movie downloads will become mainstream is if the DRM is broken as completely as it is on DVD, so we can make permenent archival copies. As a general rule, people don't like to spend money and have nothing to show for it. That is one of the reasons that theaters aren't doing as well. Why should I spend $20 for tickets and popcorn, when for the same price, I can get the DVD and popcorn?
I belive that most of these Black Lists advertise themselves as lists of known Spammers or ISPs that allow spamming, and the instructions are to ban all sites listed. I don't think you can make a case that someone is misusing a product, when they are just using it as advertised and instructed. Liability misuse is only pertenent when you use a product in a way not intended by the manufacturer. This is not the case with someone blocking URLs on a purchased Blacklist
