Unfortunately, Eventual doesn't equal Imminent
When your business model is based 100% on a captive audience, and that audience escapes your captivity, there is damn little that will keep supporting that business model. Eventually, they will figure that out. Until then, we will just be entertained by a bunch of silly laws and enjoy watching the unintended consequences - until enough real damage is done to cause the revolution to begin.

Sorry Folks, but they are correct to worry.
In my mis-spent youth, I used to hop on my bicycle and ride down to Allied to pick up a Sams Photofact on the family TV; then pop the back off, plug in the cheater cord, and start looking for blue tubes (orange good, blue bad). Power down, pop 'em out, back on the bike and over to radio shack. Pop 'em in the tube tester, buy the ones I needed, get the replacement caps, back home and voila, family TV repaired.
My slide into the horrors of hacker life had begun. Next I was rebuilding car engines, transmissions, building electronic circuits - and finally into programming. True hacking at its worst.
Hell, I still do my own auto work, thus depriving the dealer of excessive profits from $99 oil changes, $199 brake jobs... This hacker lifestyle has just ruined me.

Lesson Learned for other Trolls
How to read the article:
"The minister notes that you have made $130,000 and also notes that he has not received your campaign contribution. Therefore, he feels an investigation is needed".
You can't fleece the flock if you don't share appropriately.

Sometimes, reality sucks
In centuries past, the only news came from travelers telling stories - then from ships arriving in ports - then from town criers - then from printed flyers - then from Radio - then from Television - and now from the internet.
Each of these came into, then fell out of, favor. Each of these came into being when the technology to support them was invented. Each partially or fully supplanted the prior.
When newspapers were the only source (other than "important highlights" from TV news), they had a captive audience. There was no where else to get that information - and they thrived in that void. The AP and other "global" agencies created a wire-service that all local papers could subscribe to as that was the only way to get international news quickly. Papers relied a LOT on AP articles (and Getty Images) "way back then".
As all financial investments state "Past Performance is no Guarantee of Future Results". There is nothing to say that your industry MUST continue to exist when newer technology comes along to replace it.
Business Executives may miss "fishing in the typing pool", but PCs and the technology of Word Processors killed it. The Dial Telephone eliminated operators. "Long distance please, South Carolina, Jefferson 4-5566" (yeah, I'm old enough to remember how I called my Grandmother in the 1950's) Some businesses do "evolve with the times". Fischer Buggies made the transition from Stagecoach to Automobile bodies.
We need to stop the thoughts of being entitled to exist forever. And we sure as hell don't need laws to protect "the old guard" and we don't need to tax the new to keep the old on life-support forever.

But we've come so far...
In just a few decades we have come from inventing the internet and just being the Top 1 in speed to being in the Top 5, then then Top 10, then the Top 20, and now we are proudly in the Top 25! Just give these folks a couple years and we'll make the top 100!!! We'll be really great then!
My guess would be "0" made it to "actual" lawsuit - but a few made it to filed status - promptly thrown out as frivolous, merit-less, or just plain stupid.

Keyword Advertising: FAIL
Naturally, the keyword-dependent advertising is now showing ads on this article for the Amazon Echo and the Amazon Echo Dot. Need to work on that a bit - detect "positive" article -show ad - detect "negative" article - DON'T show the ad!
Like Machin Shin, I am a total geek and love our tech toys... even used to run QVoice on my early PC's. Had a nest, but removed it due to the bricking stories. When mama wants heat, we damn well better have heat!
The balancing act just isn't coming together yet. Abuse is rampant - security is non-existent - and I agree that we are decades behind where we could and should be.
Until respect for the Constitution returns to our various TLA's, I don't see a resolution coming. And that is just plain sad.
