Sydney J. Harris said it best. "A cynic is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past; he is the one who is prematurely disappointed in the future."
"The typical person today wants access but doesn't particular care about ownership. The thought of paying $20 to $40 for a new movie that you'll watch probably once is nuts."
In general, that's true, but I even buy books that I only read once. Movies, I'll watch several times. It may be years between those times, but I'll watch 'em. Therefore, kind of despite my earlier post, I won't buy a movie unless it's something I think I'll watch more than once.
I've seriously never heard of Redbox until now. Netflix, of course, but not Redbox. But then, I'm a good little cow. I go to the theater, and if I like the movie I'll buy it when it comes out on dvd. Moooooo.
And therein lies the myopia of the music industry.
Short term: $15 for a CD might average about $150 that day, and about $55K per year, but ONLY if 10 CDs sell EVERY SINGLE DAY for that year.
Long term: $1.30 for a song download may not amount to the same daily average, but more people would be willing to spend a little bit many times over, and thus will end up with more profit. (I refuse to attempt the theoretical math on that part)
umm no THIS is fascism:
noun-a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
attempting to impose your will upon another is just wanting to control someone. There's no simple classification into which you can lump all people who do that. GTFOY
Here's a big shocker:
If you're out in public, YOU are public domain. ANYONE has the right to take your picture. Publishing said picture for profit needs permission, but simply taking the picture doesn't.

(her's not mine)
But this, political views aside, apparently applies to this site as well. the comment to which I'm replying is case-in-point.
