I take it you haven't been in London recently? I was there last year, and I honestly thought first that the posters were some sort of satire. *shivers*
I especially loved the way they announced the third day we were there (middle of summer) that since it now was so hot that everyone were allowed one bottle of water with them. And here I had been carrying around 10 of them all the time!
Also, while I'm on the subject; they don't do trashbins anymore. Turns out you're supposed to throw the trash on the ground, and someone will pick it up. You know, so no-one throws a bomb in a bin or something.
They are absolutely mad. The make the TSA look like sane people!
First of, let me point out the silver lining; 10 cents per page makes the math a lot easier than 8 cents. ;-)
Second; why charge per page, or even document, at all? Wouldn't it be more sane to charge a subscription fee, or something like that?
Then again, the only sane way of doing this is to not have a fee at all. One of the core basics of democracy is to allow the people to keep an eye on the courts, and make sure that they don't go bonkers.
Not to worry, if you do have a claim, you can all enjoy the full dollar (credit on your next bill of course... if you remember to check) that you're awarded.
Of course the lawyers gets about a million or so...
Definitely, but then again we're not talking about "private citizens", we're talking about big corporations with (presumably) lawyers that are ready to jump into the fray if needed.
No, they should have resisted, they should have raised the alarm and they should have taken the feds to court (if the feds didn't back down).
I don't see the problem. Of course it's okay to TRACK the computer, even maybe do a little spying to figure out where it is (snap a picture of the users face). And OF COURSE it's NEVER okay, under any circumstances, to snap naked pictures of someone without their consent like that.
What puzzles me is that the police took the photos and didn't seem to wonder why the company had them?
You forgot to mention that "the public" in "the public perception of justice" is defined as "whatever The Party says", not necessarily what the "general public" feels.
Your entry almost reads as a defense for this insanely broken system. Please tell me that I'm mistaken.
I'm fairly sure that anyone knowledgeable enough to "combine it relays, VPN, or other 'cloaking'" would also be able to do a quick google-search on how to hack a "secure" WiFi.
A; Currency is NOT identical copies. Ever heard of serial numbers?
B; What is your point? I have no problem with anyone making a copy of either a CD or money. I would have an issue with anyone claiming that it's the original, i.e. someone trying to sell someone else's music as if it was their own or trying to pass off counterfeit money as real money.
Well if you "share" my money in the same sense that I would "share" a movie, that would mean that you are making counterfeit money, which is a whole other ball of yarn.
But sure, if you want to make copies of my money, I don't care. As long as you don't blame me when the feds come breaking down your door that is.
You are the first person I have ever even heard of that has that definition of "sharing".
If I share a piece of cake, it usually means that I eat one part of it and the person I share with eat another part. We both get cake.
What would you call it if I "shared a cab" with someone? We both got the ride, and most likely we both ended up paying less than we would otherwise. To me, I don't see any sacrifice there?
And how about sharing an experience, such as a movie? We both get to see the movie.

Re: How does that even make sense?
If we change the sentencing period for a crime, that doesn't apply retroactively.
Likewise, if we outlaw something, it doesn't make you retroactively guilty.
That's the thing that bugs me the most, that they apply it retroactively. Which should negate the argument that the law is to encourage creativity.

It's an affront to democracy. Just because they for once ruled "the right way", does not mean that the system works. Even a blind squirrel you know...
