This is about using errors or inconsistencies in government paperwork to scare people into paying fines. It has nothing to do with environmental protection initiatives.
And you should be second guessing those initiatives. While you protect some hardwoods in a foreign land, up here in Canada, Alberta is being scarred by oil sands development.
How much environmental damage has been done in China to mass produce cheap goods available at your local Walmart or Target?
We indirectly pay for the 'highway'. Your ISP pays the owner of the 'highway' to use the 'highway'. That payment is covered by the money that you pay the ISP.
Like there haven't been other examples around for a hundred or so years, say like the mail or the telephone.
How does the mail get delivered internationally? I don't pay the USPS when I said mail via Canada Post to the US. How do international phone calls get connected?
Everyone pays someone to use their service or product.
The best part about that notice from Cogeco is that before the change that 20GB increase in the cap would have cost you $30 in over usage charges. After the change, the extra 20GB costs you a measly $2 more each month.
And they have the nerve to continue to charge $1.50/GB of over usage, when they just increased your cap by 20GB for $2.00.
With a big pile of cash just sitting there waiting to be use, it literally costs Apple nothing to litigate. Now, if you don't have a pile of cash, it will cost you to litigate against Apple.
If their "ideas" can be quickly reverse engineered, then perhaps those "ideas" should not be given patent protection? Simply inventing something should not automatically mean you get a government-granted monopoly.
Samsung is not innovating by bringing the Galaxy Tab to market, it is copying — essentially attempting to clean up based on risks taken by Apple.
Wait a minute. You said it took "large R&D costs" and "enormous risk" on Apple's part to bring the iPad, which would imply that developing a tablet is a long and expensive process. Then you said Samsung is copying it, which implies that developing a tablet is not a long and expensive process. Which is it?
There's no signs of any such repeat happening at the moment.
I'm sure that Motorola and Nokia thought the same thing too in the cellphone sector or Sandisk in the mp3 player sector. Being the initial leader doesn't mean perpetual success.

Despite the availability of cheap treated water, people pay for bottled water.
Despite a pop, popcorn and chocolate bar not costing anywhere near $10, people pay that at a movie theatre.
Lots of example where something can compete with free or real cheap.
