"You should have the technology to easily identify and stop bad behaviors."
The SyFy (you should see the comments about the name change from SciFi that continue to this day) newsfeed put a vulgarity filter in a while back. Well a lot of fantasy involves creatures or demons from Hell. That you can't use that word anymore kind of disrupts the dissuasions. A classic case of not thinking about the children as you throw them out with the bath water.
My problem with the episode was not the dialog, but the unworkability of the concept. Each phrase encapsulated a complex concept. During their childhood they must have learned the background to these phrases in simpler terms and they should have retained the concept of "dumbing things down". In fact they are shown they still have that ability in that episode when Picard tells the story of Gilgamesh.
My favorite STNG episode was "Who Watches the Watchers", geek mode off.

Hollywood has always fought to protect the film makers vision. That is why they won't sell the rights to TV unless they agree to show the film intact ... ah no wait a minute. That's why they show the same version worldwide ... no that's not quite right. That's why they don't require changes based on test showings ... I've got nothing, this makes even less sense than their piracy fetish.
You do realize that Time is a trademarked term, the concept of TIME has been copyrighted, and the mechanics of TIME have been patented, don't you? Your casual use may result in a DMCA take down notice against your existence by the deity of your choice.

Actually the original purpose of barbed wire was to keep cattle in. Which is how many of the media and some hardware companies view their customers (cattle).
Barbed wire is not very effective for keeping people (pirates) out since they can figure out how to climb over it, climb between the strands, or cut it.
