Re: When The Election Process Itself Is Politicized ...
Elections are politicized. It's the lack of communication channels that put democracy in jeopardy. People are just accepting stuff from their own personal bubbles and sticking their fingers in their ears and yelling "lalala" to everything that may burst that bubble. That's why democracy is in danger.
I've said before but it needs to be driven home: we need to start seriously caring about critical thinking. You know, if somebody says "don't vote to give voice to women" instead of concluding "yeah, let them vote!" one should just laugh at it and say "no way, I'll be voting with them to further their cause and help make a difference!".
Before making any decision or forwarding anything people should naturally go through a self-checking process. Check if it doesn't trigger any deep emotion or seem too absurd then go check multiple sources and read multiple takes on it (including from sources you don't agree with) and then make their mind about believing or not. It has to be natural, we have to start teaching our kids this.
I'm not as optimistic and I honestly think Wyden is on the right path even if the bill needs some adjustments. There has to be real consequences or they'll keep doing it again and again. I'm not sure if it was Sanders but I'll credit it to him: "when a company is too big to fail then the system itself has failed" or something like.
The US lost a big chance to jail people and let companies crash flamboyantly when the mortgage market exploded back in 2008. We are losing the opportunity in the digital world as well regarding privacy.
Well, here the company would do some PR handling, throw some empty promises and quietly fire the employees leading the thing as soon as the dust settle for bad performance.
Labor relations are inherently unbalanced in favor of the employer.
Jesus, that's not the case. It's a joke with relationships. Sure it's disgusting in reality, sure men tend to be "forgiven" by such idiocy when women are vilified, sure we are in a stupidly chauvinist society but seriously this is just exaggerated.
It's not. Specially because there is the opposite version as well. You are comparing apples to monkeys. The romantic comedy category does have plenty of sexist examples yes but it's another beast.
Though, it could have been less of a problem if they had distributed both versions (the girl staring and the guy staring), it'd probably have saved them the trouble of stupid moralism.
It's cardboard security like fingerprints. Sure it is pretty easy to use but if you really want security set a password and stick to it. Any serious, conscious criminal will avoid using it.
I can't say I don't understand those who celebrated the assassination attempt. The man (Bolsonaro) is worse than Trump. Misogynist, racist, homophobic and virtually everything bad humanity is capable of.

Re: This? Do this more often. Do this ALL the time
We need more Stawinski-like cops. Now THIS one is a good cop. Not only he didn't cover the asshats that got it wrong but he made it clear that the victim is the victim, nothing else. Doing the job properly isn't enough to call a cop a good one. You need to denounce the bad ones and refuse to comply with the bullshit we see in PDs all around.
