Heh...I watch some tv. They don't need to shut off anything that people really want to see to push a political message.
Rather there are entire channels that exist of nothing but political messages. These are what pass for entertainment by those so serious that they demand actual consequence to their reality tv, not fake marriage Kardashian stuff.
Sorry, "Mr. Romney". This is not going to be discussed in quiet rooms any longer. It might get messy. But we're done with hearing about how horrible it is when a bunch of people get together and say "enough".
I'm hoping that more and more people are going to become more vigilant about this. I'm hearing from people who I never talked to about intellectual 'property' before, and they are becoming much more educated about this issues involved here.
If only a fraction of those people become more active in watching for these things, then we're going to see a gain in attention.
Of course, that's just my personal anecdote, but when people like the nurses I work with or my real estate agent brother, I'm getting the sense that we're getting somewhere.
So, where do we go to register our approval for shutting it down?
I went to en.wikipedia.org expecting to find a link.
I use wikipedia quite a lot, even though I don't add a lot to it. It is very valuable to me. I don't think I'm alone on that, would like to see this stand taken.
I'm really quite tired of this bit of libertarian orthodoxy that says "do you have a right to x? no, but you can pay for x!"
As though that is the same thing.
And some how this gets passed off as better.
I mean, the whole drive for libertarianism was that it would result in better outcomes. But now the floor is gone. I mean, serious people think that 'you get what you pay for' should go to the point of making a choice to eat at the wrong fast food establishment could result in certain death.
Don't worry though. It should only take a few dozen deaths before that hot new burger chain suffers enough market loss to make it worth their while to quit skimping by using broken down refrigeration equipment.
We live in such a fact-free world, that it is tremendously difficult to break through with mere facts.
We need to have a system that reduces incentives to lie. Right now, they can lie with impunity with no cost. In fact, politicians have massive incentives to lie!
Market failure is way more common than our currently fashionable economics would tell you.
And this notion that if you attach a business to government that it will magically transform the government into a competitive market. That's a whopper!
The large risk pool that is Medicare enables prices to be lower.
Right now, overall, the US is #1 in cost and #37 in outcomes. So, every industrialized country pays less and gets better care. More government involvement in those countries has led to better outcomes and a lower price, in large part by having a massive risk pool and thus power to drive down prices.
Also, people who don't understand the value of public schools to themselves, even if they did not attend them, or have children that attend them...I just don't understand that myopia. For instance, if we have an inexpensive path for smart people to become doctors, or engineers, or whatever, that makes all of our lives better.
government spending is not the same as household spending.
government debt is not the same as household debt.
macroeconomics are not accounting.
We do not have an unmanageable government debt at present. To say otherwise is to betray your lack of knowledge about economics or that you have been otherwise induced into your position.
Anyone who is telling you that Medicare is imminently bankrupt is either lying or ignorant. There is no problem there.
Any future potential problems could be easily remedied by raising the maximum income level that is taxed for Medicare.
And sorry, anything that takes what used to be covered and turns it into something that requires cash is a 'gutting'. It would also give massive incentives to blow the roof off of health care spending.
His plan, which they call 'preserving Medicare' does nothing of the sort.
It keeps it in name only whilst replacing it with a defined priced voucher. You can then take this voucher to a health care company and pay the differences out of pocket.
I'm sure that this will be a completely fair market and won't be disadvantageous against the patient. No sir. Businesses always deal fairly with captive markets.
It is Orwellian doublethink to call something 'preserving' when it guts it entirely.
