I may be too doom and gloom about this but I think that the fact that they are doing this is a sign that the process is done and they are about to implement it.
It's amazing what happens when the incumbants are faced with a robust municipal FTTH. :) Some of the lowest prices in the country from the incumbants. (At&t and Cox)
Righteously angry but still woefully stupid and ignorant. The sad thing is: you missed the part in which they talk about how the falsely accused site offered to help her out only to receive an unhinged E-Mail back from her.
In short, it's really not their problem or this site's problem, so why should they do anything outside of report what is happening?
Sometimes you just need a good laugh to keep you sane. It also demonstrates once again that it's ignorance about the issues that is the root cause of all of these issues surrounding this debate.
People create stuff all the time so what makes your creation so much more important? Anyone can create, it's how you market your creation and if people think it's worth buying that is the important part.
I fail to see at all how your "right to publish in a manner you see fit" has been somehow taken away.
By all means, create away and invoke your right to publish in the manner you see fit. Or, based on your thinking, keep those precious creations to yourself and never publish it because you don't have any right to do it in the manner you see fit for some reason.
Although I find it sort of hard to get as outraged as I typically do about stuff like this I still want to point out that once again, it favors those who continuously whine about the need for more and more protections because they claim that their business is dying.
I have always thought it was just good old fashioned greediness that motivated them but this makes me realize that they really, truly, just don't get it. They are just that clueless about the digital world and how it works.
It's like they want to fail. Seriously, how can the record labels continue to be this dumb? I just don't get it.
We have moved on. It is time for them to acknowledge this fact and do the same. There will more than likely always be a market for physical media - I do not dispute this, but the days of old in which physical media sales dominated are long gone.
You do know that there are ways to find out the truth don't you? It's certainly typical behavior on the Internet to post things on sites with more than one handle. :)
I think the MPAA should classify themselves as Rated R.
Their slow and certain death is very disturbing and gory to witness as they continue to make one bad decision after another in an attempt to prop up their old business model that doesn't work anymore.
Course Violence is A-OK to them. Nudity, sex, or drugs though? Bad news.
And this makes the $49,000 judgement for 14 songs played at a bar on a Karaoke night more reasonable?
Owning a copyright to a song should not mean getting paid for every single use in every single instance. It should never be a right - implied or otherwise, to get something for doing nothing just because you own the copyright.
I just feel sorry for you and your ignorance. Don't you understand that every time a new business model is created you guys go and sue it out of existence?
More depressingly backwards thinking about the future of content.
These guys will never learn and that is the main reason why they are having such a hard time right now and why they will more than likely be no more at some point in time.
Let's merge and then make the content hard to get! Sounds like a plan....

It's a complete role reversal really. The news media makes up the comedy and then the comedy shows report on it. :)
