I just got an E-Mail titled Are you addicted to the Internet? I opened the mail and the first thing it said was, Go to this web site and take a survey. When I clicked on the link I got a pop-up "Yep, You're addicted" and a tally number, it was in the Millions....
Matthew, We are not suggesting that artists not get paid in fact we all think they should perform more so we can see them live. And if I want the a tangible CD with the case full of pictures then it should cost. (and they should make a profit on the materials used as well as the effort to create it) But to charge $0.99 each for something that is in fact an endless supply called .mp3 doesn't supply and demand cover this? If the supply is high (in this case infinite) and demand is low (taking about just one file) shouldn't it be cheaper the a penny less then a buck? What we get is called an industry standard why not charge a penny for music that hasn't seen the billboard charts in a few decades and $1.99 for the top 10 of the week? Hell, run specials (10 free downloads with the purchase of a Tangible CD) Sell the entire album on a gig flash drive. (a usable item AND the music) The notion people think the artist should not get paid is wrong. What should be shouted loud enough for everyone to hear is "We know MP3 files are free, for you to make, why are you charging us as if we are getting a CD with it?"
I know several guitar and bass players that they just want to get out and play in front of an audience. I myself would love to sing in front of a huge audience. When did making the art of music become all about money? Now days, the artist is in more control. What happen to play where ever you can, record a CD, sell it where every you play and if you are good your music gets around.
"Dude, you got to hear these guys, I'll copy my cassette tape for you to listen to"
Now days it is more like. "Dude, listen to this file, I'll e-mail it to you." Music is viral and if it's good it will be downloaded for free like it was recorded off the radio when I was young. I always had mix tapes of my favorite songs and when the artist came to town I went to their concert and bought their T-Shirts.
I have met some pretty talented musicians that never made it to the stage other then local band war type shows and they all seemed to feel the same way. They want to play their music, they want to get on stage and have an audience and they want to quit their day jobs. None of them ever say I want to make a hit and live off the royalties. I'll bet if you talk to the bands out there and ask the right questions they will say the same thing. Money will be made if they tour and more people will want to see them live if they hear music they like. CDs are not for Bands to make money, they are for record labels to make money. record labels need to change there focus.
Agreed, And if you're looking for it you might be willing to be filmed doing it. Go for both but focus on the makers of the films more then the watchers.
It's like all of you are more concerned with how to get around the problem instead of seeing that the problem is, Home land security is a Joke!!! Why is time being spent on searching laptops? I wonder what the percentage of old ladies laptops are being searched because we all know that's where the we are the most vulnerable to attack from.
I'm going to patent my new concept. It's called "Nothing" Nothing is great, you can throw nothing and nothing comes back, you can bounce nothing and nothing bounces back. From now on if you are doing nothing, give nothing, get nothing, or use nothing you have to pay me a nickle. I think a nickle is enough.
