These things are not really necessary, and it's time to realize that these Patriot Act things can and will be abused by the police if they dislike you for ANY reason whatsoever.
I am not frightened of terrorists. They have been able to kill a grand total of 5K people in 100 years on American continental soil. That is less than 1/10th to 1/20th of the number killed EACH YEAR in car accidents alone.
Just not something that the average person needs to worry about, nor would we have to worry about it if we would start getting tough on Saudi Arabia (where all the 9/11 terrorists were from) about the madrassas that are fronts for terrorist recruitment and extreme mullahs.
The bottom line is that there are certain people and organizations supposedly allowed to upload these things online (once a clip is put online, the courts have said that it can be linked to and reuploaded anywhere).
Once that is done, the consensus viewpoint is that ANY uploading of the thing in question, as long as it isn't changed, is authorized because the people in question ALREADY released the thing in question for no money.
If this turns out to be true? I hope that their asses are nailed to the wall for it, because if they are whining about other people doing that (uploading things illegally) and are doing it themselves and then whining about it? They have no standing in a court of law.
Agreed. Personally, I would rather that the judge stomped on this right away, and said that the search was not necessary because we are not dealing with something that can lead to criminal charges.
Hell, the guy has ALREADY said that he is connected with the jailbreak.... this seems like a fishing expedition to try and find out who else was involved.
How many people are going to do that when they have a PERFECTLY capable computer that is furnished by the government? Not many, in my opinion.
The fact is that policies like this are fem-nazi policies, meant to catch men more than women and dismiss them for simply looking at something that other people don't like.
I could understand if they could prove that he was doing it during WORK HOURS, not that he was just doing it period.
Agreed. Personally, I think that the judge got it wrong. When the guy is at home, whether he is using a government provided computer or not, the government has NO right to dictate what he does on that computer, period.
The fact is that the whole "Porn sites are virus-laded traps!" hasn't been true for a long time now, from my liberal explorations of the porn aspect of the internet.
In fact, the bigger source of viruses and malware is ADS ON LEGITIMATE NON-PORN WEBSITES!
I still remember my cousin surfing to CartoonNetwork.com/video on her computer and getting pwn'd by a virus on it. I traced it directly back to the ads on that website by surfing there myself in Windows with NoScript disabled in Firefox, and having Norton immediately pop up a warning about it.
Yeah, some of our officials in government (United States or otherwise) are not too bright, cannot reason that DRM just pisses off legitimate customers and makes them go the illegal route, and that the real solution is to DECREASE PRICES and offer some added benefit to buying the real thing in question.
Dead Space 2 did that by offering special weapons and suits if you connected to EA's network and had the actual legitimate article.
Of course, the problem with that was that some of the things DISAPPEARED if you were not connected to EA's network, and I have complained about this to EA.
Hopefully, they will get the message and send out a patch that says that once the thing in question is enabled, it is enabled for good whether you are online or offline.
True..... everything is going to go to online distribution (which cuts out packaging, import/export costs, dealer/seller fees, and a bunch of other fees.
Even if you have to mail someone something by FedEx, it would actually cost you LESS in the long run to do that than to do the regular things, especially since now the CONSUMER is paying for the shipping.
A lot of games out there should be 20 dollars tops. Even Dead Space 2 (which me and my friend put our money together to buy) is not worth 50 dollars on PC. It's worth about 20 from what we saw, how short the game is, etc.
Who says that they are 'devaluing their own product'. The fact is that the MARKET sets the price for the game, and if you don't do what the market wants?
People pirate your games or simply pass over your system period.
I never understood why we had to make diseases that were even worse than the ones we already had. There just is no SANE reason for it, because these things are going to be stolen and used by terrorists sooner or later.
Just focus on finding cures for the diseases that we already have, and LOCK UP those who try to make even worse diseases.
To the first poster... no such thing as 'god'. Yes, there might have been very powerful people in the past, but that doesn't make them 'gods' anymore than us having nuclear weapons would make us 'gods' to people living 2000 years ago.
Actually, he is wrong with the "They are supposed to vote based on the facts in evidence and the law!" Part of what makes a jury system good is that you get some people on the jury who have experience in the section in question (such as a pathologist on the jury for blood evidence) so that the more learned people can point out to the jury "Hey, this is not true!" or "Hey, this is true!"
Someone should challenge the removal of the jurors for that. The Founding Fathers SPECIFICALLY said that if the people disagree with a law, they do have the right to go the route of nullifying it by refusing to reach a verdict and/or declaring the person in question who violated the law innocent.
There isn't a 'right to be forgotten'. There is a right to not have untrue things said about you (something I have had to get on numerous websites about) on the internet and elsewhere.
It's about time to realize that many times on the internet, statements are taken out of context or people are given 'partial statements' from someone.... that needs to stop, it denigrates 'free speech' by making it 'manipulated speech'.
I don't care about 'revenue generation', I care more about knowing what the feds and others are doing in my name so that I can take them to task for doing things that I don't agree with, such as torturing people.
Just another idiot who wants to 'shame' people who aren't doing what he wants them to do. They are jerkwads, and the sad part? They usually think that they are good to spend time around.
Some judges agree with you about that. There have been rulings in Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey in the past that have voided EULA's and said, basically, that a EULA is unenforceable unless it can be read BEFORE you open the box that something comes in and return the thing immediately if you don't like the EULA.

I cannot because the companies in question will not allow them (in most cases) to be sold online and shipped to the United States.
