Are you sure he wasn't trolling?
"But much of what I see is unedited, incoherent babble indicative of a herd mentality, not a true desire for self-government or fairness.
Learn to internet, John."
To add to what Mike said; if you are looking for intellectual discussion or quality content on the internet, you can find it. If all you find is stupid stuff then you are looking for stupid stuff.
"Out of physical sight, out of mind. At some point you've got to turn off your computer or your iPad, but the mail and the brochures and printed matter just keep coming. "
At some point, the magic of the internet is going to allow me to do everything I want/need. Pretty soon I am going to replace my mailbox with a trashcan with a slot in it, because anything coming thereby won't be important to me.

Re:
SOPA is formally dead. Whatever the new form, it will have undoubtedly a different, nondescript name, or possibly some language tacked into a National Park Service fishery budget allocation bill.

Re: Re:
Well, he could have just done what the rest of the government does and bypass all law and order to expose the videographer then grant full immunity to whatever corporation gave up the info. That, my friend, is the patriotic American way!

Re:
He has 20+ years of consistency. His message has been the same. If you looked at the record of the other clowns in the race (hell, maybe all of the US Legislature) and added up the length of time they consistently voted/legislated what they preach combined they couldn't compare to Paul. So at least we know RP isn't a lying, flip-flopping, compromising tool of oppression.
Rod Beckstrom is a highly successful entrepreneur, founder and CEO of a publicly-traded company, a best-selling author, avowed environmentalist, public diplomacy leader and, most recently, the head of a top-level federal government agency entrusted with protecting the nation’s communication networks against cyber attack.
Throughout 2008, Rod served as the Director of the National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, where he reported to the Secretary of DHS, and was charged with cooperating directly with the Attorney General, National Security Council, Secretary of Defense, and the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). Prior to joining DHS, he served on the DNI’s Senior Advisory Group. Rod is unique in having experienced the inner workings of two, highly-charged, often competing, federal security agencies created in the wake of the September 11th attacks, an event that he says, “changed my life.”
ICANN is goose-stepping in time to the governments' demands. Otherwise, they will be removed/replaced by those who will. Crony capitalism at its best. (Yes, I know ICANN is "not-for-profit" organization but still benefits from the government granted monopoly, protections, and regulatory capture any of our fine corporate overlords can enjoy.)

Re: another non-story..
Well the porn industry embraced the internet as a distribution medium and have shown that content creators can make money on the internet. The mainstream content industry is slowly making their way to this recognition. Not everybody likes to hold up the porn industry as a bastion of innovation but they did drive a lot of tech on the internet.

Imagine...a world without music rights collection agencies that collect plenty of money for themselves and the predatory rights holders/theives...and reluctantly give the scraps to a small portion of blessed artists. That's where we should be headed.

Well, the AC was probably thinking 'Mike' as he wrote his rebuttal. 35%* of them actually check the actual author before they make comments. Regardless, they think all the Techdirt writers are really just Mike using a different name.

Actually, Sherman didn't write this, he said it, and Mike copied from the transcript. Just wanted to point out that you are semantically incorrect...like you do when you don't have a good point.
This is why it is so hard to take you seriously. You deliberately misrepresent the statements of others, then characterize those statements as bunk.

Re: NSA spying and the Momron Connection.
Wow! Now where is my tinfoil hat! I guess the Mormons want all that info so that they can send targeted ads? The missionaries will know exactly what to say to you to convert? I know they keep records of dead people...you know...for genealogy purposes but now it all makes sense!
