Could you be any more of a broken record or a whiny bitch? If your business models are so great, then people would be supporting them. But as it is, you can't even get anyone to take a word you say seriously when you start crying about "piracy".
First off, How do you know it was NOT legal. Last I checked we are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty not the other way around.
Also you point out that 90% of users were downloaders only, What's your point? Just because I downloaded a file from Megaupload without uploading a file does NOT mean it was illegal. You ever heard of open source? A lot of Android roms were hosted there, as were many other types of original content that was free.
Yes we know Kim is not a reliable source but we also know Hollywood is also not reliable. This whole case stinks and no one is willing to step up and show any real evidence. Instead we have seen plenty of evidence lost or misplaced. We have also seen the government trying to destroy all the evidence on the servers. This is not acceptable.
What gets me is how stupid the guy was to go for 30%. There was never any hope of getting that. He probably could have trolled very well though by just asking for much lower amount and hope they pay to get rid of him.
No big deal other than the amount of time this wasted in the courts. Do you really think these fools paid everyone for the time they wasted? Who pays the judges, stenographers, and everyone else involved in making the court run?
Yeah, thing is no matter how you do it in Linux you have to have software that cracks the encryption. This should not be the case. I should not have to pick the lock on something I bought.
I can make them play. I am just disgusted that I have to do all this to make them play when it should be simple matter of clicking play. I still find it ironic though that their copy protection does nothing but annoy people who actually bought the disk.
Now if only the stupid DRM on everything would not cripple the usefulness of other OS options. I have nice high end gaming machine I built out, then when I tossed in my bluray I find that in order to play one in Linux I would have to rip the movie to my hard drive.
Well now look tax payers are about to loose $5 million to piracy! Something needs to be done to stop these pirates stealing from our poor economy!
Oh wait, I'm sorry these morons who are actually TAKING MONEY are the good guys while those making copies are the evil bad guys. For a second there I got confused.
Re: If you think we have problems now, just wait...
Or I can just see the public announcement now.
"Hello citizens of the world. As you all know we have been fighting this terrible "global warming" and we have some great news! We have totally stopped global warming!
Now as a somewhat related note we want to tell everyone to start stocking up on cold weather gear. Seems we did so well with our goal that it is going to be a long and cold winter!
The only bad news is that the winter is expected to last the next couple hundred years."
Is it just me that is really bothered by the entire idea of "climate engineering". I mean, stop and think about what is going on here. You have a bunch of scientists who are out there trying to change weather patters.
These are the same guys who cannot tell you reliably if it is going to rain today or not. Yet these guys want to go and start altering things?
In order to responsibly alter a system you first must understand the system you are playing with. Our planets eco system is a VERY complex system that we do not fully understand. What these scientists are trying to do could have untold side effects.
It kind of makes me think of a high school kid who just got a Honda Civic from his parents so he sets out and is going to "sup' it up". He doesn't know a thing about cars but hey, he can drive one so how hard could it be to add a NOS system right?
"The irony is that all of his fighting actually reinforces the claims of the industry for insanely high penalties. If it's going to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees just to prosecute one obvious case, then the industry needs to be able to levy hundreds of thousands of fines."
You really must be a moron to not see that the reason this guy is fighting so hard is BECAUSE of the level of the fees. I mean really, $675,000 for 20 songs. Ok, yes what he did was against the law but $675,000?
If someone sued me for that much then dang right I would fight for all I was worth. fining me $675,000 would ruin me financally for most of my life probably. So what motivation would I have not to fight? I might as well dig as deep into debt as I can fighting it. I would have nothing at all to loose at that point.
On the other hand if they fined someone something reasonable then people would just pay instead of fighting. If they came to him and fined him $1,000 there is a pretty good chance he would have just paid it. Also don't pretend that $1,000 is nothing. If you know a few songs can cost you that much then you will just buy them legally.
I'm also all in favor of these protests for this kind of thing. The supporters of these bills are using dirty tactics to try and hide what they are doing. As a result I am all in favor of any method used to bring attention to them.
It also goes a long ways to send a message to those working on these bills that the general population will not be silenced. If we can make a mockery of them in their own conferences then do they really think they can control people in the real world?
Well, I don't know, If I could get into office and have Hollywood throw money at me while I did nothing to help them then that sounds like awesome position.
I guess what I'm saying is that it is the corruption that bugs me not really the money. The money by itself is not a direct indication of corruption. When the money is tied to other actions is when you can see the corruption.
That site is indeed frightening for a bit but then to you have to take into account other things. Just because you get the most money from the people benefiting from your vote does not make you bad instantly.
Just think for a moment if you were running for office. You made a promise to yourself to not be swayed by money and to be honest. Then one day you have people from both sides of an argument come and offer money. You could easily then accept money from the one you were going to support anyways and turn away the other.
Another point is, say I was running for office. I hate these copyright laws and would swear to change them. You can sure bet I would not get much money from Hollywood but the internet community would donate money to me.
I guess my point is that there are a lot of factors going into that and just because you the way you vote and your funds line up does not mean you are swayed by it. Sadly in a lot of cases I think money is buying votes but I would not throw someone under the bus just off the info on that site.
A better indicator is if you can see them flipping back and forth on the same type of issue following the money. If they hold firmly on one side of an issue though I have to respect that.

"My city even went so far as to attempt to collect fees for traffic accidents"
Well that is great example of trying to double dip into peoples pockets and that is why it was rejected. If your in a wreck and police come then there is going to be a ticket written probably 90% of the time.
Well my point was that if you understand an issue then I could not come up and talk you into making a bad law so easily. These people making the laws often make bad laws because they have to rely on what others tell them.
If you do not understand how the internet works then it makes perfect sense that we should just cut out the bad parts. It seems like it is a simple matter if you only have a basic knowledge of the internet. As a result when Hollywood says do it the idiots go "oh that sounds like great idea"
